Isobel frowned at the hideous news that Erlic -- who more than ever seemed to fit the name "Frio" she had given him -- told them what had happened. This man Tegol Denair was truly evil. Was she not her father's daughter? Would her father not wish her to help her friends fight evil in their time of need? Had not her father spent a lifetime combatting monstrous tyrants very much like Denair on behalf of various peoples who could not do it themselves?

She squeezed Ravin's hand and said softly, "Seņor Ravin I told you I would fight by your side, and I intend to do just that. My father would think it a noble cause for his daughter. It is foolish to think that the four of you should face whatever the monster Denair would send to the Palace alone. And how could I simply sit by and do nothing knowing what was happening? It would be the height of cowardice! I refuse to hide from them. I would rather die fighting this evil than cower in fear and do nothing."

Her sword seemed to grow warmer at her hip. Your father's daughter, she thought she heard it say.

Jade stood beside the door impassively. Yes, the things Erlic told them about what had happened in that Tavern place were pretty horrible, but none of them were anyone she knew, after all. And while killing children was pretty bad, since it was so far away and didn't affect her she had trouble working up any sort of upset over it. She wouldn't volunteer to jump up and fight people she didn't know for people she barely knew. So she just kept her mouth shut, idly watching Erlic march coldly out of the room. Of course if someone asked for my help I might say yes, she thought as she watched his retreating back. But no one had.

She turned and watched the others to see their reactions. Some of them got up and left to discuss things, others were huddled together talking quietly. That weird skull was quiet for a change, sort of just hovering there by the kid who'd been chucked in the cell across from hers. She noted with amusement he had another skull on the end of a staff he was carrying around. Maybe he has a thing for skulls, she thought with amusement.

She fiddled with one of the rings she'd grabbed from that chest, admiring the green gem set into the silver band. There was an intricate spiralling design all around it. As soon as she had the chance she would see if she could identify some of this stuff. It was all a nice little bonus, but not what she'd been sent to find. She'd get that in time. She always got what she was sent for. That's why people hired her.
