Tristan glared a hole through Marz’s retreating form, his hands now uncrossed and propped up on his hips. The nerve of that hotheaded little jerk! “‘Don’t ever touch me again!’” Tristan mocked under his breath, still staring at the distant clump of trees by the lake Marz had disappeared into. “Who would want to touch you when you’re acting like such an idiot!”

He turned and stalked off himself, not really sure at first where he was going, just determined not to follow for once. That’s when he remembered Tia’s promise earlier this morning: If you ever need someone to talk to, I’ll be there for you, Tristan. Feeling a little hesitant, he eventually decided he’d take her up on the offer, and go ask her why his lover was such a pill to live with sometimes. He knew she wouldn’t have any answers, but it had felt good to complain to her before, and figured this time wouldn’t be any different.

“Marz is such an asshole,” he announced, pushing aside a couple of tree branches out of the way as he ducked into the area by the pond Corum and Tia were at. “Hey, Corum. Tia, you’ll never guess what he just…”

He trailed off when he realized what he must have walked in on. Tia was in the water, half-naked, grinning over at Corum. Marz’s best friend turned to give him a smile, and Tristan backed up, tripping over his own feet like an idiot. “Oh, I’m sorry,” he blurted out. “I didn’t know you guys were…um…”

Instead of stuttering over the rest of his apology, he quickly whirled around and hurried away from them, feeling his face start to turn bright red. “Raking idiot,” he cursed himself, staring angrily at the ground. He walked back to the campsite, feeling oddly depressed. As he sat down and grabbed another piece of ham to munch on, though, it suddenly occurred to him that there was something missing from the camp. Something which had been sitting right there, just a couple of minutes ago.

“Jeremy!” he growled. With his hands clenched into fists, he stood up and hurried toward the lake, this time going in the same direction Marz had taken. When he got to the clump of trees he’d disappeared into, however, he didn’t enter; instead, the sounds of talking and splashing nearby caught his attention, making him walk around the trees blocking his view of the lake.

He literally couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Marz was in the water, naked, having his back washed by an equally naked (and very scrawny) Jeremy. Marz still looked a little pissed off, but didn’t look at all like he’d been forced into the position, and that stupid little redheaded nitwit looked as if he’d died and gone straight to the twelfth heaven.

No words would come out of his mouth. He simply stared at them for several seconds, silent as a ghost, before turning quickly and stomping away. He couldn’t remember having been this angry! He could feel the hot steam trickling threw his clenched teeth, and his fingers were shaking almost violently as he dug around his pocket for a cigarette. He knew a real fix right now would make him feel immediately better, but since he’d given that shit up, a cigarette would have to do.

He made his way around the lake, passing Tia and Corum’s original spot, until he found one of his own. Sitting down on the dirty bank and chain smoking as if he were drawing oxygen, Tristan hugged his knees to his chest and stared angrily at the far side of the lake. So this is what he had to look forward to. Every time Marz got pissed of with him, he would go and just get naked with someone else. Some kinda therapy that was! And so much for discussing things together in an orderly and considerate manner, too!

He sighed, staring angrily at the smoky plume that rose into the air. He and Marz were never going to see eye to eye on some things. Damn it, why’d he have to go and fall in love with someone who had the maturity level of a tadpole, anyway!
