Subject: But I'm just enjoying the view

Tia’s pert announcement to take a walk with Corum was like a slap in the face. Rowan’s mouth fell open, and he positively gawked at her for almost five whole seconds before finally shutting his trap and cursing at himself inwardly for acting like an idiot. Marz’s snide remarks about being jealous were pretty cruel, too, so he simply glared at the kid and got up, turned, and stalked angrily away.

He headed toward the lake because he didn’t know where else to go. Jeremy was now alone, but Rowan didn’t want to be seen hanging around him so much, anymore, since Tia had gotten ideas in her head about the two of them. He did rather fancy a chat with the lovely Isobel, but just when he’d started to think about it, Val moved in first. Even his own sister was having a cozy conversation with old stiff-back himself, Erlic. Marz and Tristan were of course together, Tia had gone off to be with Corum of all people, and that gorgeous little genie had run off crying, only to be swiftly followed by Ravin. Lucky bastard.

Rowan kicked glumly at a nearby pebble as he approached the lake, still alone. A large, flat-topped rock on the edge of the water caught his eye, and he climbed up, settling himself on his stomach, with his chin propped up on his crossed arms. The sun had just started to come out, and he couldn’t wait for it to chase away the nighttime chill in the air. From where he was, he could see most of the lake’s surface (it wasn’t very large—just a pond, really). He could even make out the figures of Corum and Tia a little bit away.

His breath caught when she stripped off her outer clothes and dove into the water, laughing and calling out to her companion as she came up. He laid his head on the side and continued to watch her, glad that it was probably still too dark for her to know that she was being observed from a distance. Well, at least somebody was getting to enjoy her company, even if it was Corum.

He sighed, wishing he could tell her how much he liked her. But he just didn’t do that sort of thing. If he could have heard her talking, he would have agreed with her wholeheartedly. He wasn’t ready to settle down with one person, even if she was one of the cutest girls he’d ever met! He was just lucky he hadn’t fallen in love yet. This time around at least, there would be no city to try and hide in, so that he wouldn’t have to chance running into a certain person.

This sucks so bad, he thought, a trifle angrily. I wish I’d never even met her in the first place.
