Between sips of ale, Ravin used his dagger to scratch letters into the rock he and Laurel sat upon, while waiting for Erlic to join them. He asked for and received instructions from the druidess on how to spell a few words he intended to use in his future letter to Kyri. As he practiced writing the new words, he noticed Justin giving Isobel a hard time near the food tent. The merc's antics were beginning to get on his nerves and that was unusual since it took a lot to rile the mild mannered thief. He chuckled when he saw Isobel toss a glass of water into Justin's face before stomping on his foot and hurrying off into a tent. The merc seemed a bit startled by her actions, but continued to smile as he made his way into his own tent. Ravin had the feeling that he wasn't about to give up his efforts to win Isobel into his bed.

The thief frowned when Laurel pointed out to him that he had drawn a number of his letters backwards. He redid the B and D correctly then looked up when he heard Erlic approach. Immediately, he sensed that something was wrong and the guildmaster verified that when he announced that there were strangers observing the camp from a distance. When Erlic suggested that they take no action at the moment Ravin had to agree yet a part of him wanted to see to it that Alakbar was safely tucked away before the sun set.

Since they didn't want the assassins to know that they were aware of them hovering nearby, Ravin tried to act as normally as possible. He asked Erlic if he knew how to spell his ex-wife's name and the guildmaster nodded before sounding out the letters. Taking his time, Ravin carved them into the stone. Although his writing still looked a lot like chicken scrawl, Laurel complimented his efforts, drawing a smile from the thief.

"I need to head back to the food tent for a refill on my ale," Ravin said, after draining his goblet dry. Before leaving his friends, he crouched down and appeared to be adjusting the dagger sheath on his calf. In reality he was merely obstructing any view the assassins might have of him so that they couldn't read his lips while he mumbled to Erlic. "Perhaps you should inform the Jann of our uninvited guests while I see to Alakbar." Of course Ravin didn't know that he was mimicking an earlier suggestion made by Isobel to the guildmaster.

"Thanks for your assistance in teaching me those words," Ravin said, returning to his full height and speaking normally again. "After I get some ale I'll continue practicing in my tent." He gave the couple a smile then slowly made his way to Alakbar who was looking over the camels that stood beneath a large tarp. "Have you eaten?" he asked the boy.

When Alakbar shook his head, Ravin tossed an arm around his shoulders and led him into the food tent. He helped himself to more ale while the boy glanced at all the food on the table. Once he finished filling a plate, the thief told him that he would be eating his meal in a tent they would be sharing. "It's not a good idea for you to be alone or out in the open right now."

Ignoring Alakbar's quizzical look, Ravin led him back outside and was about to choose a tent for them when he saw Justin peeking in through the flap of Isobel's tent. He grabbed the prince's arm and dragged him along, startling the merc when he stopped beside him and tapped on his shoulder. "Isobel is expecting us," he told Justin, before lowering his head and muttering his next words. "The camp is being spied upon right now, so keep a close eye on this tent since we'll have the prince in there."

The merc nodded his understanding of the situation and stepped aside, as Ravin entered the tent with Alakbar in tow. Isobel woke immediately then sat up, starring at the pair. "Sorry about the intrusion," Ravin said quickly. "I just learned that the assassins are nearby so I decided to duck in here with the prince." He saw no need to tell her that the real reason they entered her tent was to prevent Justin from doing so first.

Alakbar moved off to sit in one corner of the tent where he could eat his meal and keep an eye on the tent flap at the same time. Ravin took a seat beside Isobel where he also had a clear view of the flap. "I think they won't chance an attack while we're surrounded by Jann, but its best to be careful nonetheless," he said, his eyes moving over Isobel's scantily clan body of their own accord. After clearing his throat self-consciously, he shifted his gaze to a far wall and took a drink of ale. "Justin is on guard just outside."

The thief ran a hand through his unruly hair then glanced at Isobel before forcing himself to stare at the tent flap. "I'll stay awake and watch over you and Alakbar while you sleep if you like."

The prince seemed to like that idea because he immediately set down his plate and stretched out his body upon the floor then gathered a number of pillows around him.

Ravin took another sip of ale then palmed a dagger in case any uninvited guests decided to enter the tent. Although he could hear Isobel breathing beside him he tried not to think about her exotic beauty. He began to recite the alphabet in his mind while watching the tent flap and drinking more of his ale.
