Subject: A sense of panic
In reply to: Marz 's message, "Killing time" on 10:27:36 12/27/01 Thu

Tia listened to the various conversations going on around her while she ate her meal. She would have to remember to praise Marz later for his cooking skills. Maybe she could pick up a few tips from him since she didn't have much talent when it came to preparing food. Most of the time, she ate her meals at a small inn located half a mile from her home. When she ran low on money Tia could make a loaf of bread last until she picked enough pockets to pay her rent AND get to the market for fresh fruit at least.

Normally, the petite thief loved to talk but she remained quiet this morning. As much as she hated to admit it, Tia was frightened about the loss of her perfect eyesight. How could she support herself with the trade she was used to if she had trouble with her vision? With her luck, she'd probably swipe a purse off a city guard because she couldn't see the arm-badge that marked him as such, and would end up spending the rest of her days in jail!

Please dear goddess, let me see clearly again soon, she prayed, while swallowing down another piece of meat. It comforted her to have Rowan at her side, with his hand holding hers. He seemed nervous about the possibility of assassins attacking and that only added to her own duress. She wouldn't be able to aid her friends in holding off any assailants if she couldn't see what the hell she was doing. It wouldn't be wise to whip out her sword if she couldn't make out the face of the person she was attacking. And, throwing knives were out of the question because she might accidentally hit one of her friends, thinking they were the enemy.

Tia blinked a few times then sighed when all she saw where shadowy figures sitting around a very bright light, which had to be the campfire. Once in a while someone's face would come into focus then fade away as quickly at it came, leaving her feeling very depressed. "I hate this," she whispered to Rowan. "I feel like such an invalid, and I'm more scared than I've ever been in my life. What if Val's wrong, and my vision doesn't get any better? What will I do then?" When she heard Jeremy's cheery good morning, Tia turned away from Rowan. Quickly, she wiped away the tears that formed in her eyes, and tried to reign in her panic.

"Damn, we got like a four plus hours walk ahead of us," the otherworldly youth said, as he plopped down next to Rowan. "Too bad they don't have cars or even planes here. I missed out on getting my driver's permit because I landed here! And I also missed out on the millennium celebration. I wonder what's going on in my world right now." He reached for a mug of java and smiled wistfully. "Do you ever miss your home Rowan, and wish you could go back there just to see how things have changed since you've been gone?"
