Subject: Clumsy attempts at comfort

Barry nearly yelped as Tia grabbed him and pulled him onto her lap. Her thumb actually went into his mouth! Well, he managed to resist the urge to bite down... the poor chit didn't mean it, after all. He settled in and moaned a little as she began stroking his head then... "Hey! Watch it!!!" her finger grazed his eyeball! He shifted a little in her lap so she wouldn't blind him.

"What did you look like when you had a full body?" Tia asked him. "I bet you were handsome and had tons of pretty ladies begging for your attention, right?"

"Oh yeah, I was hot. The dames loved me... couldn't keep their hands off me. I was kinda tall and had black hair... I had a goatee once but it didn't work too well on me -- gave the babes whisker burn, ya know? -- so I shaved it off. They used to say I had the smoothest skin and the most talented hands... Lara loved when..." He stopped in mid-sentence. He didn't want to think about Lara. "Well, it was a long time ago."

He quickly changed the subject. "I heard that healer guy sayin' you'd be seein' again soon. I'm sure he's right. Seen this hundreds of times. Always gets better." He was lying about having seen it hundreds of times but he had seen it before and sometimes it did get better. He didn't tell her about the times the brain was damaged permanently and it didn't... cause, well... she really didn't need to hear that right now. Barry snorted mentally. He was getting soft in this lifetime.

He snuggled himself close to her body and let her rub his head. It was the best he could do, he knew. But it was better than nothing.
