Rowan threw Jeremy a doubtful look while he talked about Marz. The kid couldn’t hide the fact that he was flirting with the handsome ex-gang leader every chance he got. And, judging from the way Marz seemed to encourage this, along with the increasingly heated looks of hatred Tristan kept giving, trouble was definitely starting to brew. Jeremy was in too deep.

He had to agree about Tristan, though. He was a cold fish, or at least he seemed to be. Rowan had seen Marz try to get close to the dragon, only to see him pull away as if he’d been zapped by magic. Tristan seemed to remain as rigid as the day he’d first met him on this world (not that he was any less rigid back home, either). But…it was still hopeless. Despite their weird relationship, Rowan could tell Marz was totally gone for the idiot. It was true love of the first degree. Jeremy didn’t stand a chance.

Unless…well, young love was fickle, right? Separate the two long enough, and maybe…hmm. Rowan could distract Tristan for a bit, while Jeremy tried to…. He snorted at both thoughts. He couldn’t possibly imagine what he would do to keep a sour puss dragon occupied long enough for a skinny kid like Jeremy to attract Marz’s attention. Admittedly, there had been some pretty strong urges the first few times Rowan had spent around the kid, but he was pretty much over that. Not that he wouldn’t mind kissing him again—but then, he was the type of guy that wouldn’t mind kissing anybody, so long as they were equally ready and at least moderately attractive!

All thoughts of Marz and Jeremy evaporated from his head when Tia returned to sit beside him. He listened curiously to what the healer had had to say to her, smiling with relief when she announced her vision would eventually return to normal. His smile turned into a chuckle when she professed her impatience. He couldn’t blame her. Hell, if he were blind, he would go crazy!

He sucked in a breath when she nestled her head against his shoulder. Why was he so nervous around her? Well, that was a dumb question, since he already knew the answer. He wanted so badly to kiss her again and tell her how much he liked her…but she might run away again, and that’d be a serious blow to his ego. He was used to girls throwing themselves at his feet, not the other way around. Course, he didn’t have all his lands and titles anymore, but hell, he was still handsome enough, right? And charming, and sweet, and just all around good boyfriend material, he was sure of it. Not that he wanted to be anybody’s boyfriend, but…well, it was always best to start slowly on that sorta stuff. He wasn’t about to fall in love again, mind you. What a mess!

All this crazy stuff was dancing through his normally empty head, when he suddenly decided to just do it. He would ask to have a private word with Tia and just…just…ask…ask what, exactly? ‘Can I kiss you again?’ ‘Do you feel the same way about me?’ ‘Why are you snuggling up to me right now if you don’t, huh, huh, huh?’

He shook his head and rolled his eyes at that, deciding he was the biggest dork on the planet right now. It was just time to get it over with and do it. “You don’t need to be scared or anything,” he said, staring at the fire for some reason. “I’ll stay next to you and lead you until you get your sight back, Tia.”

As he turned toward her, however, what should come pelting out of the sky but that damned floating head. Now, normally Rowan had been somewhat partial to Barry, since he seemed like a pretty funny guy, and neither was there much chance of him being any sort of competition whatsoever for the ladies’ attentions, but right now, he hated him more than anything. With an uncharacteristic scowl on his face, he turned away from Tia and Barry, back to Jeremy.

“Maybe you’re right about Marz,” he said somewhat grumpily. “What the hell do I know about kids in love, huh? You let me know how I can be of help to you, and I’ll do it. You’ve only to say the word, kiddo, and I'll do what I can.”
