In reply to: Laurel Goldleaf 's message, "Offering aid" on 00:56:07 11/28/01 Wed

Ravin winced when he heard Laurel's voice. Nice job of keeping your mouth shut Rue! he thought. Not to mention your failure to hear someone sneaking up behind you! He wore a tight smile as he turned around to face the druidess. Her concern over his inability to read touched him, alleviating some of the embarrassment he felt about his inadequacy.

For years he had managed to keep his illiteracy a secret from all but his closest friends, yet now he had inadvertently spilled the beans to someone he hardly knew. Well, there really wasn't any harm in her knowing, was there? In fact it might be a blessing since she was already offering to tutor him, and he had to admit that he liked the idea of someday being able to pen a letter or read a book. But what if he was too old to learn the intricacies of placing all the correct letters together to form a word? Obviously, Laurel didn't think his age would be a factor or she wouldn't have volunteered to teach him, right?

"I'm not sure what kind of a student I'd make, but I'll give it my best shot since you're willing to teach me," he said, his smile becoming more genuine now. Although he wasn't sure what she meant about Erlic speaking to her as if she were a child, he was more than willing to try to give her some insight into the man if he could. Obviously, she cared for him since she wanted learn more about him.

Ravin was about to ask Laurel if she had any experience at riding Rocs (live or dead ones) when he caught sight of Isobel in the distance. She looks as confused as I feel right now. "Perhaps we sure join our new companion," he suggested to Laurel. He secured his ale flask to his waist belt as they made their way to Isobel's side.

"Have either of you ever ridden on a aerial mount before?" the thief asked, looking from Laurel to Isobel "I'm not too proud to admit that I've never used such means of transportation before so any pointers you might give me would be truly appreciated."

Ravin had no idea that each of the undead Rocs would obey simple commands from its rider, such as up, down, higher, right, left, land etc., but that they were forbidden by the Queen to attack anyone unless they were assaulted first.
