Episode 3: Truths Revealed
Chapter 1

“Lucky,” Liz gasped, trying to pull him up. She may have had the strength of a slayer, but Lucky’s body had gone completely limp, and felt like it weighed a ton. No amount of struggling seemed to help her get a good enough grip on him to lift him up.

“Ugh, this isn’t working,” she sighed, looking around the deserted docks again. “Help! Please, someone, I need help!”

A moment later, she heard footsteps coming around the corner. She looked up as Angel appeared from the shadows and let out a relieved gasp. “Angel, thank God! Hurry, I think he’s...” She choked back a sob, unable to complete the thought.

Angel hurried down the steps to her and hoisted Lucky’s body into his arms easily. She stood up as well, looking around frantically. “We have to get him to the hospital now. Should we call an ambulance?”

He shook his head, walking towards a nearby car. “There’s no time. He’s lost too much blood. Come on.” Liz followed and stood back as he slammed his elbow against one of the car’s windows, smashing the glass. He then reached in and unlocked the doors. “Get in.”

“Um, are you sure about this...?” she asked, looking hesitantly at the car.

Angel got Lucky into the back seat, then turned to her, his face slack and deadly serious. “Liz, if we don’t get Lucky to the hospital right now, he’s going to die. This is the only way.”

She nodded numbly and crawled into the back to sit with Lucky, picking up his head and letting it rest on her lap. Angel quickly hot-wired the car, and they sped off towards GH. She made a mental note to ask him later where he learned how to do that, then looked down at Lucky, gently smoothing the hair away from his face.

“Hang in there, Lucky, we’re almost there. Don’t leave me yet,” she whispered, leaning down to place a gentle kiss on his forehead.

Angel let out a small sigh as he looked at them in the rearview mirror. He said a silent prayer that he had found them in time, knowing how much Lucky meant to Liz and how heartbroken she would be if he didn’t make it. As he was about to look away, Liz lifted her head and looked into the mirror as if she knew he was watching. He looked into her eyes and was slightly disoriented at the way she looked back at him, like she was meeting his gaze, even though he knew that wasn’t possible. Vampires don’t cast reflections, so Liz was only looking into an empty mirror. She smiled sadly, then looked down at Lucky again.

“He’s so pale,” she whispered, running her fingers down the side of his face and around the bite wound on his neck. She let out a shaky sigh and closed her eyes, willing herself not to cry.

“We’re here,” Angel said a moment later, pulling the car to a stop in front of General Hospital’s emergency entrance. He climbed out and hurried around to help Liz get Lucky out of the car. She waited until he had Lucky in his arms, then slid out after him, grabbing onto the side of the car to steady herself before following them inside. She felt almost like she was underwater as they approached the doors. Everything around here was muffled and hazy, and her movements felt like they were in slow motion. All she could focus on was Angel in front of her, Lucky’s body dangling limply from his arms.

Angel paused inside the doors, blinking a few times as his eyes adjusted to the glaring light of the lobby. Liz rushed past him to the nurses’ station and banged on the counter to get someone’s attention. She wished her grandmother was working there, but Audrey was usually on the sixth floor, never on the first. Just as a nurse was making their way over to her, she heard a loud gasp and the clattering of a clipboard as it hit the linoleum. She whirled around to see Bobbie standing a few feet away, her face pale as she stared at Lucky. Angel hadn’t moved yet, he was still standing near the front doors, holding Lucky as though he weighed nothing.

“Lucky, oh my god...” Bobbie whispered, finally finding her voice. She hurried over to them and looked at Liz. “What happened?”

“He’s lost a lot of blood, he may not have much time,” Angel interjected, his voice low and emotionless. Bobbie nodded and waved for a stretcher, putting off the questions until he was stabilized. Once they had disappeared into a room with him, Angel turned his attention to Liz, who was leaning against the wall in shock.

“Do you want to call anyone? It’s going to take a while to replace all the blood he lost.” His voice was quieter than usual, and his eyes had a far-off look in them, something Liz wasn’t used to seeing.

“Um, yeah, I should call Luke. Angel, is something wrong? You look kind of distracted all of a sudden.”

He shook himself out of the memory he had fallen into and tried to smile a little. “Sorry, I guess I was just remembering when Buffy had to go through this”

“She did? She’s okay now, so I guess that’s good, right? I mean, Lucky will be okay now?”

Angel shrugged, not sure how to answer. “Hopefully.”

“Well, let me call Luke, then you can tell me what happened to her. Maybe hearing about it will help take my mind off of this.” She waved towards the room where they were currently working on Lucky and sighed. She didn’t want to think about what might have happened to him, or what might still. At least Angel was with her. If he hadn’t been on the docks in time, Lucky might have died. He truly was an angel.

Cordelia stared at Emily anxiously, waiting for her to reveal what she supposedly knew. “Yeah Em, what are you talking about?” Nikolas spoke up curiously.

“Um, I just meant . . .” Emily hesitated, looking at Nikolas then down at her plate nervously. “I just meant that you can have a crush on Buffy, but she’s probably not the girl you’ll end up with. That’s the truth I meant.”

“Thank God!” Cordelia sighed, leaning back in her chair. “I thought I let our secret . . .slip.” She cringed, realizing what she said.

“Secret? Whose secret?” Nikolas asked, leaning across the table.

Cordelia gazed into his warm brown eyes. He really was dreamy, Nikolas had that dark, brooding, intellectual European act down pat. He was everything she had dreamed of . . .then why couldn’t she take her mind off of Xander?

“Damnit Xander,” she muttered, breaking eye contact with Nikolas. “You were saying?”

“I wasn’t saying anything, I was asking you what secret you were talking about,” Nikolas chuckled, throwing an exasperated glance Emily’s way.

“Oh, that secret . . .” Cordelia sighed, stalling for time. “It’s just that Buffy’s not a natural blonde, she’s really a brunette. Which is ironic, considering she does the dumb blonde act so well, but if the others heard me say that they’d jump down my throat. You know, I really don’t get the great mystique around her. Sure, she’s saved the world a few times, but really, if we were all in her shoes wouldn’t we do that too? Though, I couldn’t imagine ever wearing the shoes Buffy wears . . .have you seen her taste in clothing?”

“Saved the world? I bet,” Nikolas snickered, realizing he shouldn’t believe half the stuff Cordelia said. He was learning she had a tendency to ramble.

“Who said anything about saving the world?”

“You did,” Emily noted.

“I didn’t say that,” she said quickly.

“But you did. Cordelia, you said ‘sure, she’s saved the world’. What does that . . .” before Emily could continue the waiter walked up to the table, a phone in his hand.

“A call for Mr. Cassadine,” he announced, handing the phone to Nikolas.

“Thank you,” he smiled, waiting for the waiter to leave before answering the call.

“Doesn’t he have a cell phone?” Cordelia asked curiously.

“It broke, his horse stepped on it earlier today,” Emily noted with a laugh.

“Oh.”

“Hello,” Nikolas said into the phone. “Mother, how are . . .what? Lucky? … Are you sure? … Ok, stay calm, we’ll meet you there. Don’t worry mother, he’ll be fine.”

“What’s wrong?” Emily asked, noticing how Nikolas had paled.

“It’s um, my brother . . .Lucky’s in the hospital,” Nikolas ran a hand through his hair. “She said she doesn’t know what happened, but he lost a lot of blood and is in critical condition.”

“Where is he? GH?” Emily asked as the trio made their way to the lobby.

“Yeah, Laura said that Elizabeth and that Angel guy brought him, but she hasn’t spoken to them yet.”

“Angel …” Cordelia whispered. She shook her head, knowing full well what had happened to Lucky, it was what had happened to so many back in Sunnydale – vampires.

Luke came back from his office holding a cigar under his nose and sniffing it approvingly. He stepped up behind the bar and smiled at Xander. “Now this, my friend, is what life’s all about.”

“A cigar?” he asked, frowning. “You do know that smoking can kill you?”

Luke chuckled and popped one end in his mouth. “I live in Port Charles, there are a lot of things here that can kill me. Cigars are the least of my concerns. In fact, there’s probably a better chance that someone will shoot the place up with a sub-machine gun in the next five minutes than there is that I’ll die from tobacco products.”

“Not to mention the whole vampire element.”

He nodded solemnly. “I still can’t believe my own niece is a bloodsucker now. I had such high hopes for her...”

“Really?” Xander asked, taking a sip of his drink while trying to dodge the cigar smoke that kept blowing in his face. “I thought I heard that you and Carly didn’t get along?”

Luke smiled as the phone started to ring. “Oh, you heard right. Caroline and I don’t exactly mix well, but she’s my baby sister’s kid, and God help her, for some reason Barbara loves her, so I try to give the kid the benefit of the doubt.” He turned and frowned at the phone. “Damn it, do I have to do everything around here?”

Xander chuckled as Luke went over to answer the phone, marveling at how well they were getting along after knowing each other for such a short period of time. Luke was like his soul mate, at least, when it came to their slightly warped senses of humor.

“Luke’s.” Luke leaned against the counter as he answered the phone, hoping it wasn’t important.

“Luke, I’m glad you’re there. You have to come down to the hospital right away. It’s Lucky.”

He tensed up immediately and crushed the cigar out. “Liz, what happened? Is he okay?”

She sniffed, and he felt his heart contract. Whatever was wrong, it was bad. “I don’t know, Luke. He lost so much blood...”

“Whoa, what do you mean, lost blood? Are you saying this was a vampire?”

Xander stood up when he heard that, his full attention on Luke. “Vampire? Where?”

Luke waved his question away, too intent on listening to Liz to deal with him yet. “Yeah, but I got there too late. Whoever did it was already gone. He looked so weak, I was so afraid...” She choked back a sob, pausing to gather herself. “Um, anyway, Angel showed up in time and brought us to the hospital. Bobbie is here, she’s in with Lucky right now. They’re doing a transfusion.”

“Has anyone called Laura yet?”

“Yeah, Bobbie said she would. Just hurry, please.”

“You just hang in there, darlin, we’ll be right there. Is someone with you? You’re not there alone, right?”

She sniffed again. “No, Angel’s here, I’m okay. You said we, who else is there?”

“Xander. Do you need me to call anyone for you?”

“I’m gong to call Alexis in a minute. She can tell Giles, and he’ll let the rest of the gang know.”

“Okay, that sounds like a good plan. We’re on our way right now. The Cowboy will be all right, he has to be.”

“I hope so,” she said softly before hanging up. Luke sighed as he put down the phone, then turned to Xander. “Bastards got my kid again. He’s at GH, you coming with me?”

Xander nodded and stepped back from the bar, waiting for Luke as he walked around it. “Of course. Was anyone else hurt?”

“I don’t think so. Liz found him. Poor girl, she sounded like she’s a wreck. Luckily, Angel got them to the hospital in time. At least, I hope it was in time. Come on, they’re waiting for us.”

“Angel... why am I not surprised?” he muttered under his breath before following Luke to the door. As they were about to leave, Carly and Hannah burst inside, arguing with one another.
“Hey!” Luke shouted, catching their attention. They both whirled to face him, their eyes practically shooting fire.

“What?” Carly snarled.

Too angry to be afraid, Luke stepped closer to her, his face nearly inches from hers. “What did you do to Lucky this time, Caroline?”

She shook her head, slightly unsettled by her uncle’s intense glare. “What are you talking about? I’ve been with the Banana all night... unfortunately.”

“That does it!” Hannah growled, advancing on her. “I warned you what would happen if you called me that again.”

“Oh, give it up, you don’t scare me, you never will,” Carly sighed, pushing her away before returning her attention to Luke. “Why do you think I did something to Lucky?”

“You already tried to bite him once before, how do you expect me not to suspect you this time, too?”

Carly flinched slightly, surprised that he knew about her and what she had done in the graveyard. “Well, I didn’t do anything to him tonight. Are you saying someone did?”

Luke sighed and started for the door again, where Xander was waiting anxiously, ready to run at a moment’s notice if either of the vampires got all fangy. Without a Slayer nearby, he wasn’t about to take any chances.

“He’s in the hospital. He almost died tonight, thanks to you or one of your new friends.” With that, he stormed out of the club.

“You are SO dead!” Xander shouted smugly, then ran after Luke before either of them could react.

Carly snorted sarcastically. “Well, duh! Of course we are!”

“Um, who do you think did that, anyway? To Lucky, I mean?” Hannah asked, their feud momentarily forgotten. Carly shrugged and headed for the door.

“Probably Stefan, he’s already tried feeding on Nikolas. I don’t really care who did it, but I think I’m going to go to the hospital and check things out.” She turned back and grinned evilly. “After all, I’m family.”

Hannah laughed, shaking her head. “Yeah, Liz and the rest of the Scooby Gang are really going to love to see you there. Go ahead, get killed, see if I care. I’m going to go find Spike. Maybe he did it.”

“Whatever,” Carly sighed, leaving the club. She didn’t really care what Hannah did, as long as it was far away from her. Besides, she was too busy planning her entrance at GH. She stormed off towards the hospital, smoothing out her clothes, then ran her fingers through her hair, hoping that she looked suitably frightening.

“Wait’ll they get a load of me,” she muttered softly, chuckling to herself at her bad Jack Nicholson impersonation. She had always loved making a scene, and damned if this wasn’t going to be a good one!

~*~

Liz hung up the phone and sighed. Calling Luke had been the hard part. Now she just had to call
Alexis. Angel walked over to her and furrowed his brow in concern. “Are you okay?”

She nodded and leaned against the nurses’ station. “I just called Luke. He’s on his way with Xander. I still have to call Alexis, though, and Giles... Oh, someone has to tell Buffy too.” She let out a shuddering sigh and rubbed her face.

“Look. Alexis can tell Giles, and he can find Buffy. Don’t worry about all of them. If you want, I can call Alexis for you.”

She shook her head and reached for the phone again. “No, I can do this. You’re right, though. She can tell the others.” As she dialed and waited for Alexis to answer, she gazed over at the doors leading to the operating rooms. “I wish someone would tell us what’s going on....”

“Alexis Davis.”

“Alexis, it’s Liz...” She sniffed loudly, trying to collect herself, but failing. Angel rested his hand on her shoulder supportively, not sure what else to do for her. “Liz, what’s wrong?”

“It’s Lucky... he was attacked tonight. We brought him to GH, but it’s bad. Whoever did it, they practically drained him, he almost died, Alexis. He still might.” She sucked in a breath and held it for a moment, steadying herself. Having Angel there was helping, but seeing Lucky okay would have been better.

“Don’t worry, we’ll find out who did this,” Alexis assured her. “I’m sure Lucky will be fine. He’s a Spencer, and from what I’ve seen, they don’t die very easily. Trust me, my family has been trying to kill them for years.”

Liz chuckled at that, confusing Angel even more. A minute ago she had been inconsolable, and now she was smiling and laughing?

“Can you call Giles for me? And ask him to tell Buffy, too. I already called Luke, and Xander was with him. Bobbie called Laura when we first got here.”

“What about Nikolas?”

“Um, Laura probably called him. So, he’ll tell Emily. I think that covers everyone, right?” Her mind was so jumbled at the moment, keeping track of who knew and who didn’t was just too confusing.

“Yeah, it sounds like it. I’ll call Giles right away. You just hang in there, okay? We’ll all be there soon. Um, you said ‘we’ earlier, does that mean someone’s there with you?”

Liz glanced over at Angel, who had taken a step away from her to give her some privacy. She smiled, nodding, even though Alexis couldn’t see her. “Yeah, Angel. He showed up in time to bring us here. If it wasn’t for him...” she trailed off, getting emotional again.

“Well, I’m glad he’s there for you. Just try not to worry yourself to death. Lucky will get through this. I’ll be there as soon as I call Giles.”

“Thanks, Alexis.” They said good-bye, and Liz hung up, then walked over to the waiting area to sit down. Angel sat next to her and rested his chin in his hands as they both waited for someone to show up and update them on Lucky’s condition.

Hannah stalked up the steps to the top floor of Wyndemere, looking for Spike. He had taken to spending most of his time in Stefan’s library, digging through old books in his tireless search for the Gem of Power. She rolled her eyes at the thought, sick of hearing about the stupid rock. It’s all he thought about anymore. He had turned them all into vampires, then left them on their own, without much instruction on how to survive. At first she had loved it, being immortal, powerful, but now she was becoming frustrated. Was she really doomed to spend eternity with Carly always in her face? Was immortality really worth that? Spike looked up and grunted when she stepped into the room, then returned his attention to his books. She walked over and leaned against the large table with a sigh.

“Spike, have you been here all night?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Lucky Spencer was almost killed tonight.”

“So?” He frowned at her, wishing she would just get to the point.

“A vampire did it. He’s the Slayer’s boyfriend, that doesn’t seem very smart to me.”

Spike smirked at her and set down the book he had been studying. “Not smart? Are you mad? It’s bloody brilliant! I wish I had done it, although, if it had been me, he would be dead.”

“I don’t understand how you can think this is good. Liz is going to be furious! She and Buffy will blame us, and probably try to kill us.”

He rolled his eyes and sat back in the chair, linking his fingers behind his head. “And before this, they just wanted to do what? Invite us over for tea? Sorry, but I just can’t see the reason why I should give a damn about the little bugger.”

Hannah sighed and looked around the room, thinking. “Hey, where’s Stefan? I haven’t seen him all night.”

Spike shrugged, looking down at his research again. “Hell if I know. Probably off somewhere trying to feed on his son again. Are you sure Carly didn’t do it? She already tried once.”

“No, she was with me all night. When we found out about Lucky, she decided to go to the hospital. Said something about being family.”

He groaned and looked up at her, his eyes narrowed angrily. “And you didn’t try to stop her, why?”

“Um... I didn’t think it was a big deal. Why do you care if she goes there?”

“Because she’s probably going to get herself bloody killed, that’s why!” He sighed and shook his head. “Just.... go get her. I swear, that girl is going to be the death of me one of these days... well, I’m already dead, but she’s going to get me turned into a pile of dust if she keeps this up.” He stopped rambling and frowned at Hannah, who was still standing in the doorway. “Why are you still here? I told you to go get her! Now sod off, I have research to do!”

She spun around and left the room, slamming the door behind her, while Spike shook his head, mumbling under his breath about being more selective when making vamps from now on.

Buffy walked casually a few feet ahead of Giles, her mind on anything but patrolling. She was convinced that coming to Port Charles only enhanced how confusing her life was. If she had stayed in Sunnydale, Angel would still be in LA and her problem would be a three-hour drive away. But now, he was just about everywhere she turned. Gazing at her with those soulful brown eyes, helping out in that quiet determined way . . .

. . .She had to stop thinking about Angel. He was her past, they couldn’t be together. After all, everyone knew what happened when they were together. It’s not like there weren’t other men out there, men she was attracted to, men who were attracted to her. There was Lucky, she was certainly attracted to him. He was sweet and charming, not to mention incredibly gorgeous. But he was taken, spoken for, or whatever Liz and he called it. The last thing she needed was to fall for an unobtainable guy, a guy who happened to be in love with her fellow slayer. That just wasn’t good.

There was also Jason. He was a certain possibility. Brooding, charming in a silent, intense way . . .thank goodness he was blonde and blue eyed or else she’d think the only reason she was attracted to Jason was because how much she reminded him of Angel. But Jason was different. He wasn’t a two hundred-year-old vampire with his soul, he was a mobster who rode a motorcycle. But there was Carly and her weird claim on him. Oh well, she did have a way to deal with this particular romantic rival. Good old Mr. Pointy through the heart and she’d have Jason’s undivided attention. Yes, that would work.

“Buffy,” Giles called out, trying to get her attention. “Buffy . . .there’s Spike!”

“What? Where?” Buffy asked, snapping out of her thoughts, her stake at the ready as she looked for her platinum nemesis.

“Nowhere.”

“Then why?”

“You seemed a bit distracted. And not to sound too much like an official watcher . . .”

“You couldn’t not sound like one if you tried,” Buffy teased as they strolled through the park.

“But, as a former watcher I know it isn’t prudent to be walking around with your head in the clouds while patrolling, you know that as well.” Giles paused, looking at the young woman with a nervous smile. “Would you like to talk about it?”

“About what?” she asked nonchalantly. She kicked at a stone while he cleared his throat, trying to gather his words.

“About whatever is troubling you.”

Buffy stopped, looking up at her watcher in disbelief. “Why? Giles, are you alright?”

“What?” he said with a defensive pout. “You keep saying ‘Why can’t we be like that’ when you see Liz and Alexis, I was just trying to give you that.”

“But Giles, it’s a totally different situation,” Buffy noted with a chuckle. “Alexis and Liz are two females, two females who . . .well, they are coming from a very different place than we did. They knew each other before the whole slayer/watcher thing, we didn’t. Sure, we are now beyond just being slayer/watcher, but it’s different.”

“So . . .let me get this, you don’t want us to be like Alexis and Liz?” he asked, a bit confused.

Buffy shook her head, gently placing her hand on Giles’ arm. “I like our relationship as it is though you’re ringing right now.”

“What?” he muttered, looking at her oddly.

She pointed at his sport coat, “You’re coat, it’s ringing.”

“Oh, that,” he reached into his jacket, pulling out a cell phone.

“Since when do you carry a cell phone?” she teased, knowing that Giles wasn’t a fan of technology.

“Oh, Alexis suggested it . . .she said it’ll be easier for us to stay in contact if I have one . . .silly thing, how do I answer it?” he muttered, fumbling with the phone.

“Send,” Buffy pointed, stifling her laugh.

“Hello,” he announced, smiling at Buffy, proud he got the phone to work.

“Giles, it’s Alexis, is Buffy there?”

“Yes, sure . . .what’s wrong? You sound worried,” Giles asked.

“It’s Lucky, he’s in the hospital,” she explained quickly.

“Dear God . . .” Giles whispered, handing the phone to Buffy.

“Hello?”

“Buffy, it’s Alexis. Elizabeth just called, someone attacked Lucky on the docks tonight. He was bit, lost a lot of blood. Fortunately Elizabeth found him, then Angel stopped by and got them to GH. But he’s in critical condition, needs a blood transfusion . . .it would be best if you get down here, tell everyone else too. Some vampire is out there attacking unsuspecting victims . . .” Alexis explained in nearly one breath.

“Lucky,” Buffy whispered, Liz must be a wreck. “We’ll be there as soon as possible. Tell Elizabeth . . .tell her . . .I don’t know what to tell her, but whoever did this will pay, I promise.”

She quickly flipped the phone shut, turning to Giles. Her eyes were shining with determination, “We have to get to General Hospital, and after that I’m going to find who tried to kill Lucky and show them not to mess with the slayer’s friends.”

She paused, looking around the park, her brow furrowed. “But first, we have to find our way out of here.”

~*~

Laura leaned against Luke as Liz paced nervously around the waiting room. “Luke, why are all these people here?”

“What’s that angel?” Luke asked, his mind elsewhere.

“Who are all these people?”

“Well, that’s Liz, you know Liz,” he said with a smile, looking up he noticed that just about everyone else had arrived as well. Near the back Nikolas was sitting with Emily and Cordelia. Oz and Willow had arrived shortly after Luke and Xander. Angel was standing off in the shadow, not wanting to be noticed. “They are . . .friends of the Cowboy’s.”

“Oh . . .what are they doing here?” she asked, pointing at Alexis and Jax who had just arrived. Alexis ran to Liz’s side.

“How’s he doing?” she asked, noticing the horrified look in the young woman’s eyes.

Liz shrugged her shoulders, almost at a loss for words. “They haven’t said yet . . .I can’t lose him Alexis.”

“You won’t,” she whispered, wrapping her arm around Liz’s shoulder for support.

A moment later Buffy and Giles flew into the waiting room, getting another questioning look from Laura. “More friends?”

Luke nodded his head, not really ready to tell her the truth, or to let her know he knew the truth all along without telling her.

“What’s going on? How’s Lucky?” Buffy asked worriedly.

“That’s the question of the hour,” Xander perked up, walking to Buffy’s side.

“What kind of hospital is this anyway? A guy comes in with a mortal injury and it takes forever to get an update on his condition? Somebody has got to know,” Buffy said exasperatedly. She turned; looking for someone who looked like a doctor, grabbing the first white coat clad person she saw, who happened to be Chris Ramsey. “Are you a doctor?”

“Yes,” he said quickly. Buffy held the lapels of his lab coat.

“Well, can you tell me how Lucky Spencer is doing?”

“Huh?” Chris muttered, looking down at the slightly deranged young woman. It’s not like he didn’t know how to handle crazy people, he was married to one after all, but he wasn’t used to being accosted by them in his place of employment.

“Moron,” she muttered, pushing him away. She turned to face the group again, noticing the shocked expressions on everyone’s faces. “What?”

“Wound a little tight tonight, Buff?” Xander cracked.

“She’s just worried, we all are,” Alexis noted, sending Giles a look that told him to keep her calm, their were innocent people who had yet to find out about the dark side there.

“Come on Buffy, let’s sit down for a minute,” Giles suggested, leading her to the couches off to the side.

“Luke, Laura,” Bobbie called out, exiting the operating room.

“Barbara, how is he? Is my boy . . .” Luke whispered, not wanting to hear the worst.

“Well, he’s . . .we stabilized him, the bleeding was stopped. Thankfully Liz and . . .” she paused, not knowing the name of the gentleman who brought Lucky.

“Angel,” Liz whispered, smiling at him briefly, a look not unnoticed by Buffy.

“Well, it’s good thing you two got to Lucky in time and brought him here. Though, right now he’s unconscious…I don’t want to worry you all though, he can wake up at any moment. He’s not out of the woods yet, but we are optimistic,” Bobbie explained, looking around at the crowded waiting room. “I do have to mention, that the injury itself is really weird.”

“How so?” Laura asked, nobody had told her a thing so far and she was getting frustrated.

“Well, the injury is from two deep puncture wounds on his . . .on his neck. If I didn’t know any better I’d say it was a vampire that attacked him,” Bobbie declared with an ironic sigh.

Liz tensed up and glanced back at Buffy, who was watching Angel nervously. Luke swallowed hard and looked down at Alexis who was sitting by Buffy. A dead silence fell over the group, until Xander took it upon himself to break it.

“Vampire? Why, that’s ludicrous,” he said with forced laugh. “Why, I’m sure there’s a logical explanation . . .wild dogs, scissors . . .”

“Angry puppy,” Buffy cut in with a light laugh, Xander just smirked.

“Serving fork accidents . . .I can’t tell you how many serving fork accidents we used to have in Sunnydale. At least once a week someone would be rushed to Sunnydale General with the exact same wounds as Lucky.”

“Xander . . .” Buffy said in a warning tone, but was cut off by the doors swooshing open.

“Caroline,” Luke grumbled, bracing for all hell to break loose as Carly entered the emergency room.

“I’m just here to see how my cousin is doing,” she said innocently, smiling passed everyone at Bobbie. “Hi Momma.”

“Hi Carly . . .it’s good you’re here,” Bobbie noted proudly. “Excuse me, I want to go check on Lucky.”

As soon as Bobbie disappeared behind the doors Liz turned to face Carly. “You . . .”

“Me,” she said in a mocking tone.

Liz strode closer to Carly, her eyes full of anger and on the verge of rage. “You did this to Lucky didn’t you?”

“Now Liz, I know Carly isn’t the most popular person…but you really can’t blame this on her,” Laura perked up, completely confused.

“Quiet angel,” Luke whispered.

“Liz, maybe you should calm down,” Buffy noted, standing in case she was needed.

“Oh, I’m perfectly calm. I’ve been waiting to take her out for a long time. You did this once before and we stopped you . . .you aren’t going to get away with it, not on my watch,” Liz warned.

“I’m so scared,” Carly said with a bat of the eyes. “Listen, missy, I didn’t have a thing to do with Lucky’s accident . . . but I know who probably did.”

“Sure, you are a liar, Carly, were in life, are in death,” Liz hissed, whipping out her stake and about to lunge after Carly when someone grabbed her from behind. “Let go of me.”

“Drop the stake, Elizabeth,” Angel whispered, his arms firmly around her waist.

“But she did this, she’s responsible . . .” Liz yelled, squirming in Angel’s arms.

“I don’t think she did,” he began to release Liz from his grasp once he heard the stake drop to the ground.

“Get out of here before I let her finish the job this time,” Angel warned.

“Don’t you want to know who is responsible? Isn’t that why you spared me?” Carly asked arrogantly.

“No, we just didn’t want to cause a scene,” Buffy retorted. “Well, any more than there already was.”

“Who did it?” Alexis asked, stepping between Liz and Carly.

“Uncle Luke was right about the Cassadines after all . . .the culprit in this little mystery is none other than Stefan,” Carly noted with a smile. She looked around the room and figured it would be best if she left, so she turned on her heels and left the hospital.

“Elizabeth, you’ve got to learn to stay calm,” Angel said with a small smile, both his hands on her shoulders. “You can’t let Carly or Spike or anyone of them get the better of you. Ok?”

“But Angel . . .” Liz sobbed as he pulled her close for a hug. Buffy watched from the side jealously. She know she really didn’t have anything to worry about, that Liz was just a wreck because of Lucky. But she couldn’t help it, she was jealous.

“Stefan? What does my father have to do with any of this? I didn’t even know Carly knew him,” Nikolas muttered, looking down at his feet.

Emily gently took his hand, trying to be supportive. “I’m sure there’s an explanation for everything.”

“Well, that wasn’t what I’d call a warm and fuzzy moment,” Xander noted, nodding at Luke.

“No, son, it certainly wasn’t,” Luke chuckled.

“Ok, before anyone in this waiting room says another word,” Laura yelled, getting everyone’s attention. “What in the hell is going on here?”
