I began a new job a couple of months ago. This job came along after several months of letdowns due to my background check. My point is I NEED to hold on to this job. I'm now working with a probationary license and as many of you know, the call backs with one of these are far from plentiful. Ok, with this groundwork being laid, here is my dilema.

A nurse where I work is in trouble with drugs. I had noticed that she seemed slow and too deliberate in her behaviors; she's been there a few years and just doesn't operate like most of the other seasoned nurses there. Anyway, the other night we were wrapping up an eve. shift, talking about something and she whips out her little pill box. She proceeds to tell me how she takes xyz everyday. 8 mg. of xanax, vicodin, percocet and oxy's. don't know the amount of the opiates, but just the xanax is waaay over the top. Clearly the woman is addicted. Her behavior makes sense to me now. So now what do I do?

She's in charge quite a bit and I'm a new employee who has her own skeletons. I know she needs intervention, and I feel guilty knowing what I know and not speaking about it to someone. On the other hand, I don't want to jeopardize my own position there ie. the fact that some people would rather be in the dark ie. unpleasant information can come down on the informer.

Any suggestions?
