Near the end of Heretics the Face Dancer Priest Tuek actually forgot he was a face dancer and started believing that he was the High Priest.

That wouldn't have happened if not for a reason, I think that was leading up to something, all those face dancers sent out to take places of people after so long in place will forget they are face dancers.

I know this is merely a sideline to the main thread but I think it's a key too.

And I have to agree with Ghanima, omnious seems too trite. Shaddam IV was the ruler of a million worlds. How many were planets in the League of Nobles at the time of the Jihad?

I would find it hard to believe that in 10 000 years, and 1 million worlds they didn't encounter one single probe...
