When I met Scot he portrayed himself as a hard working Christian man. He went to a church that believed they were the only christians. I've talked to Lori about this before, as it was the same denomination she attends. However, this church had become truely twisted...it was following it's own rules.

I realized something was up when I'd been dating Scot for about 5 months. He came over one night black and blue from being in a fight. He claimed at the time that his friends had seen him out at a restaurant with me and had beaten him because they believed the Bible to mean that they could only eat with other members of their church.

I know the church was really that crazy. A girl I'd known in passing from home was engaged to Scot's best friend. She and one of her friends tried to convert me one day...all they did was piss me off. What they said and what Scot said lined up perfectly. Also, girls I'd known at school who had never spoken to me before started coming up to warn me to get away from Scot...that he was trouble.

Anyway, about 6 months later the other shoe dropped. I realized funny stuff was going on, and Scot told me he was gay. Seems his church also sanctioned same-sex relationships...even encouraged them to help "strenghten" their congregation's connections to one another. He wasn't gay...he was bisexual. And, to add to that, he chose people for their shock value. I thoroughly believe he pursued me just to shock the people at his church.

By that time I'd already broken up with him...because I couldn't deal with his drama. He was a game player and an attention seeker and I had long since had enough of him.

Whenever anyone has asked me about him I've alway said that it was a good thing I didn't marry him because I'd have ended up in prison for murder. I would guess he died of AIDs...but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that he was murdered. He chose a very risky lifestyle.

As for Roger, that was a surprise. It appears he died from cancer. Having lived the last 30 years of his life in Southern Colorado, that's not such a surprise. Almost all of my friends have lost at least one parent to cancer...waste from the Philadelphia project is stored in barrels up in the mountains there, and there's a uranium mine in Canon City. Most of my friends' parents died when they were in their 40's and 50's.

Roger only lived in Canon for a few years, but if he was in that area the whole time, it doesn't seem odd for him to have died young from cancer. He does seem to have had a huge impact on the parish in Pueblo where he worked for 12 years. They have a prayer garden named after him...named before he died. The Catholic hospital there also has a cancer wing named after him. I still can't envision him functioning as a priest...but he must have been good at it!

Ah, well...I need to go buy more robitussin. UGH. Allergies!
