and say that I'm feeling emotional just reading your post! My oldest DD is 8. When did you first start talking about it and what book was this you got?

As far as advice, I think you got some good stuff already. I had a sister that was 2 years older than me and so I already had a idea of things sorta. I can still remember what day it was--I was 12 years old and it was December 23rd! Merry Christmas, LOL. I think that you should also buy her something special that she can keep. I like the idea of taking her out somewhere to celebrate. And definatly do what ginger mentioned and get her something to keep her stuff in.

As far as tampons go--I was raised by my stepmom who was alot older than my dad and had already raised a family. Her daughters were old enough to by my mom! Anyway, so she was from a different generation. She told me that you shouldn't wear tampons till you were married! I think she just didn't want to deal with explaining it to me. So, the first time I used them was when i was 18 and a friend gave me one to use because we were at the senior picnic and I wanted to wear my swim suit. I had a hard time of it and didn't get it in right, that is my first memory of that. I think it is cool now for teens because they make those thin ones with easy applicators. I prefer tampons myself, but I probably won't want my daughter to use them right away. I think it would be easier to get used to the idea of having the period before dealing with working the tampon out. Just me though.
