Subject: Proposed Development At Tirpentwys Cut, Pantygasseg

A planning application has been submitted to Torfaen County Borough Council by Peakman Ltd. They want to sell aggregate from the Torfaen end of the "canyon" at Pantygasseg. The rock will be processed by 3 giant crushing machines and will work from 7am to 7pm Mon to Fri and 7am to 1pm on Saturdays. 100 lorries per day will leave the site and travel across Mynydd Llanhilleth to near Pantygasseg old school where a new road will be built to join the Hafodyrynys Rd. The work will take at least 20 years to complete and will only create 12 jobs. If the scheme is successful Peakman Ltd will apply to do further work at the Blaenau Gwent end of the site. The area is a wildlife haven and Gwent Wildlife Trust say the canyon is a potential nesting site for peregrines. The work would devastate the area causing light pollution, water pollution and air pollution. Please send letters of objection asap to Neil Boardman, Planning Officer, Torfaen County Borough Council, County Hall, Cwmbran, NP44 2WN, email neil.boardman@torfaen.gov.uk quoting reference 03/P/09336
