Subject: .:Princess in Hiding:.
With heavy footfalls, the fae entered her birthplace, intermingling locks of opposing hues falling in her eyes as if to shield her heart from the sight. But this mare was not one to shirk from any blow, be it physical or emotional. And so she tossed her head proudly, steeling herself against the onslaught of emotion that rushed over her as the beautiful landscape of the isle filled her vision. Instead of the intense emotional heartache she had expected, the femme was instead comforted by the unchanging landscape that seemed untouched by the turmoil raging outside her borders. Sighing softly to herself in contentment, she made her way deeper into the territory, slender thorns pricked in anticipation of any familiar voices. But who would be familiar to a reclusive princess? she wondered, a wry grin twisting her ashen lips. The answer, not surprisingly, was no one. She was a stranger among her own people, a wraith rarely seen and hardly ever conversed with by those she claimed as her brethren. This tragedy did not fail to bring sorrow to the regal mistress as her head bowed in shame. The sun beating down on her dove gray pelt brought no warmth to her as the empty expanse of her future lay before her.

Time's only Mistress -- DOT, 22:29:25 11/14/03 Fri [1]
Th' sterling noble spied the other from a distance, and something in th' back of her mind clicked. A warm nicker of welcome sounded across the isle. Sooty pistons carried her forward. Her ash tinted mug curved into a smile. Sapphire orbs sparkled with joy, happiness at seeing yet another equine whom she knew somehow, though at this moment it was not clear how, she halted near the other and recognized her as the daughter of Shazaam. Unsure whether his daughter would hold the same coolness towards her as her partner in ruling held, she held back, awaiting to see the reaction of the other.

Hearing another equine's call, the fae halted, her silken feathers swirling about her hooves in mild agitation at the sudden lack of motion. Dark fathomless eyes settled upon the sterling mare, though no recognition brightened their depths. Her head remained aloft as her auds pricked questioningly in this stranger's direction, her two-toned tail caressing her flanks as she resumed her initial pace and approached the one who had called to her.
.:Can I help you?:. she asked, her voice clear and as emotionless as her gaze. This mare was not one to let her inner secrets shine through leaving the impression of a cold, aloof personality encased in a block of stone. And stone she appeared with her grey pelt, complete with tresses carved from the finest ebony wood and inlaid with alabaster veins. But on the inside, she was heart and soul, just like most every other creature that dwelled within the mountain range. Contained within that impassive facade was a burning curiosity as to whom she was was speaking to and why the stranger had called to her in the first place. But who was she to question the femme's motives; at the very least she'd be increasing her rather meager list of acquaintances.

Time's only Mistress -- Daughter of Time, 11:08:13 11/15/03 Sat [1]
Hearing the cool words, the femme realized that though she might remember this fae of similar hue, the other had been too young then to rememember her. Azure orbs sparkled, the only piece of her that seemed truly alive, the rest encased her soul, a cool barrier betwixt her and the world. After allowing an appropriate pause, she spoke, her voice cool and welcoming all at once.
.:.I was about to ask you the same. I am glad you have chosen to return home. It has been a long time Elven, a long time.:.
Her ebony and ivory tresses intermingled with one another, dancing along the morning breeze. Her sooty limbs held fast, their motion for once was obsolete. The sea ebbed, and the sea rose, tides were like life, happiness..saddness...happiness...saddness... The sterling shela flicked her chiseled dial slightly, freeing her of the ebonite tresses the obscured her field of vision. The sound of the sea, and the sight of the fae before her made Daughter of Time flinch. Such reminded her of Shazaam, and his unreasonable coolness. Obviously, whatever she had done to alienate Shaz must have affected his daughter as well. Ah well, such was life. She would just have to deal.

A tremor of surprise rippled through her inner coil as she was addressed by name. Did she in fact know this mare? A careful review of her memory still left the femme drawing a blank. Tilting her head slightly, she scrutinized the features of her 'old friend'.
.:You seem to know me well enough:. she replied slowly, her obsidian eyes searching the azure gaze of the other.
.:But I must admit that I have no recollection of us meeting. Your voice and appearance fail to illuminate me, perhaps you could provide a name?:.
She did not mean to sound harsh, but such was her way. Years of seclusion had left her blunt and outspoken, but she had never been one to hide behind pretty words and subtle insinuations. Perhaps she could be characterized as 'frigid' or 'unyielding'. However, those adjectives only applied to the external shell she assumed for those she was not acquainted with. Elven did not waste warmth on those who would not value it.

Time's only Mistress -- Daughter of Time, 17:16:42 11/15/03 Sat [1]
.:.Daughter of Time.:.
Hoping that the name meant something good, she stopped, waiting. She would not invoke any further speech just yet. She knew the parents of this other, and so through them, knew her.
(sorry for shortness, my battery is dying!)

She responded initially with a curt nod, her eyes narrowing as she ran the name through her memory. As before, no bells pealed signaling recognition--the name meant nothing to her. However, the situation called for politeness or, at the very least, civility. And so her head inclined respectfully, the usual gesture when making an acquaintance.
.:Obviously I have no need to supply my own name as you know it already, it's nice to meet you Daughter of Time:. she replied finally, allowing a little of the ice in her tone to melt.
.:As to my homecoming so to speak, why should it hearten you so?:. the grulla pressed, her curiosity forcing her tongue into motion. As it seemed that they would continue with their present conversation, her right forehoof tilted forward to rest comfortably on its edge, the creamy surface interrupted by a peculiar lightning shaped mark, a trait inherited from her sire.

.:.Time's only Mistress.:. -- DOT, 19:47:34 11/15/03 Sat [1]
.:.The pleasure is all mine. As to the reason, I had known you had gone into hiding, and am glad to see you have returned home. If I may inquire, where are your brother and mother?.:.
She did not ask about her father, for right then, she did not care. Noticing the relaxed pose the other struck, she released her tension in a sigh and rested her off-hind, only th' tip touching earth.

If the mare possessed eyebrows, one would have arched skyward at Daughter of Time's reply. As it was, she settled for a disapproving glance, her eyes momentarily hardening.
.:Hiding? Hardly. Because I choose to spend most of my time alone, I am considered to be hiding?:. Her tone hadn't changed but the words were delivered in a clipped, terse manner, indicating that she was not pleased by the other's assessment of the grulla fae's activities.
.:What would I have to hide from? Let us say instead that I chose to end my seclusion for the time being in order to aid my father in his campaign against the Evils. After this petty war is completely ended, I'll more than likely return to my solitary life but then again, I might not. I suppose we'll see:. Her ashen lips twisted into a wry grin, one lacking humor and warmth. The thought of her 'hiding' from the world galled the mare and brought her temper just a fraction closer to her veneer of cool composure. She understood now. If one chose not to involve oneself in the customary 'herd' activities such as mating, cavorting, and foaling, then one was 'hiding' from the life chosen by all of the others. Elven was a stoic soul who preferred simplicity and peace to the often convoluted entanglements of life within a herd.
.:My mother and brother were in the Healing Ward when I saw them last:. she continued. She noticed the lack of inquiry about her father but chose not to remark on it, instead she settled for a knowing smile. Apparently, her father had gotten under this one's skin leaving the mare in a state of forced apathy. Ah well, such was life within a herd.
