If a national permit system had been enacted by Congress,
why has the media ignored it? I don't believe Parker
means total deregulation of firearms, the decision is sufficiently ambiguous for considerable leeway. The gun
show loophole as well as private sales are a concern because they can be used to avoid Brady checks that
legitimate firearms dealers must undertake. A law requiring
gun show and private transfers be subject to Brady
 checks is quite likely to come out of Congress this
time around. The attorney general has also announced that
the no fly list will also be included in Brady checks
so people on that list will be precluded from purchasing
firearms and perhaps subject to criminal charges if found
in possession of one. Other legislation will probably include restoration of the 1994 assault weapon ban and
reclassifying .50 caliber rifles as BATF class III weapons.
