Subject: Flu shots....

Besides WIN buttons, another hallmark of Jerry Ford's brief
and unremarkable term as president was the flu shot. When the
H1N1 swine flu strain showed up Fort Dix, public health officials rang the alarm bells, but that strain of flu
never spread beyond Fort Dix. (I think this around the time
that William Loeb called Ford, Jerry the Jerk) But another strain known as A/Victoria/75 H3N2 started
showing up, some people refered to it as the Hong Kong flu.
Public health officials already ringing the alarm bells from
the Fort Dix outbreak, urged Ford to declare a health emergency and everyone in the country be vaccinated. Ford
rolled up his sleeve and got stuck on national TV. They
even ran ads in the media about it was your patriotic duty to get vaccinated. I wasn't feeling
particularly patriotic, but they were offering them
at the Bethlehem Town Hall, so I went there and got one.

....Fred
