JC Chasez Theorizes About Girl-On-Girl Action, Nabs Ol' Dirty For Video

"A lot of cats were worried it would be really strong, but it's just enough to put a smile on your face." — JC Chasez

JC Chasez has constructed an interesting theory pertaining to the opposite sex.

"There's three reasons why a girl would dance on another girl," he offered, explaining the basis for "Some Girls (Dance with Women)," the steamy first single from his upcoming solo album. "One, she's attracted to a guy, so she decides to tease him a little bit. Two, she's avoiding a guy. And three, she's a lesbian. I decided to take an optimistic approach. She's doing it for me."

So that explains Madonna's onstage fling with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the MTV Video Music Awards.

"Everybody knows they're not lesbians; they're teasing the world," Chasez said, calling Wednesday while vacationing in Florida. "Girls are willing to do strange things to get our attention."

With "Some Girls (Dance With Women)," Chasez will likely be getting some attention of his own. The song, due at radio and video outlets at the end of November, features a provocative accompanying video and a remix with a guest appearance from Dirt McGirt, the rapper formerly known as Ol' Dirty Bastard.

"The record company said this is an event, you have to do something," Chasez explained. "I was like, 'I don't know, I kind of like it the way it is.' They were like, 'Just name somebody you think would rip this.' I tried to think of someone unique. Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott are amazing rappers, but they've done a million collaborations. So in my mind, Dirty is fresh. Fresh out of jail, yes. Nevertheless, no one's heard from him in a while and he's due to make some noise. And the verse he did is really cool."

For the video, Chasez worked with director Martin Weisz, best known for Korn's "Make Me Bad."

"Everything was done in good taste," Chasez said. "A lot of cats were worried it would be really strong, but it's just enough to put a smile on your face. I shot it with a very European feel. I didn't want it to be overly flashy and look like every video."

The video is set in the streets of Prague, although it was actually filmed mostly in Los Angeles, with Dirt's cameo shot a few days ago in New York.

"It's a narrative in that I'm the voyeur, watching the action," Chasez added with a laugh. "It moves [from the street] into a ballroom, but it's not a club scene. It's like a costume party, a Baroque period kind of feel, with white wigs and white makeup."

Chasez co-produced "Some Girls (Dance with Women)" with his friends Riprock 'n' Alex G, who worked on 'NSYNC's No Strings Attached.

"It starts off really bouncy, light, almost calypso feeling," JC said. "And then I added these little flute lines in the B verse that kind of made it really smooth and sexy."

The song is among the wide variety of party anthems on Chasez's Schizophrenic, due January 27 (see "JC Chasez Previews Schizophrenic Solo Debut").

Last week, JC premiered a different song on "The Wade Robson Project," the even steamier "A.D.I.D.A.S.," an acronym for All Day I Dream About Sex (similar to Korn and Killer Mike's songs of the same name), which is being considered for the second single.

"I kind of wanted 'Some Girls' as the first single because even though the title's kind of obvious, it's a very thoughtful track," Chasez said. "It's something we all talk about. It's like nobody ever really isolated it and pointed the finger at it. 'A.D.I.D.A.S.' is surprising a lot of people. It's just right in your face, which will be fun, but I want people to know I did spend time thinking about some of these songs."

Chasez is finished with Schizophrenic and will concentrate on promoting the album until the middle of next year, when 'NSYNC are expected to reunite (see " 'NSYNC's Return On Hold While JC Flies Solo, Justin Confirms").

'NSYNC's Return On Hold While JC Flies Solo, Justin Confirms
10.22.2003 7:54 PM EDT

Justin Timberlake
Photo: MTV News
"I want to sit back and support his record. Just as his friend, I want him to have every opportunity I had." — Justin Timberlake

'NSYNC fans who have been waiting for the band to regroup shouldn't hold their breath — though the boy band had previously talked about starting to work together this January, those plans are now on hold.

"It could be spring or summer. We never really set a date in stone," Justin Timberlake said. "We just said, 'Let's just start getting all of us in place so we can start making a record again' (see "New 'NSYNC In 2004, But First A Joey Fatone Comedy LP"). That's the way a record should be made. It's more fun that way. You just have to follow the inspiration where it goes."

Why the delay? The band wants to make sure that JC Chasez gets as much time as Timberlake did to explore a solo career. While a date for 'NSYNC to resume working together wasn't officially pushed back, JC's debut album Schizophrenic has been, repeatedly (see "JC Chasez 'Really, Really Happy' With Album, But Pushes Back Release Date"), from August 26 to October 21 to most recently, January 27. Not that the delays should affect the next 'NSYNC record indefinitely.

"We're not really going to postpone it too much," Chasez said. "My record's done, so I can go to work any time. As far as me being out there, I'm going to take my chances with mine, that's just the way it is. But we're going to be friends forever, so the record will get done no matter what. It's just a matter of timing."

However long it takes, though, his bandmates are willing to wait. For his part, Timberlake is considering whether his solo stretch has run its natural course, or if it's time to start thinking about a next single or even the next record.

"Everything is peaceful and easy right now," Timberlake said. "Obviously, all the jitters will come back when it's time to do the second album. But I hadn't really listened to my record in a while, and the other week, I listened to it and I really enjoyed it. I don't know if that's cocky or pretentious or whatever, but I mean that in the most humble of ways. What I realized is that I feel like I'm over the hump."

"The first four or five months [after Justified's release], it was me out there trying to prove to everybody that I could do this on my own, because there was so much skepticism," he continued. "And I feel like I stepped up to the plate, so that the second half of this year has just been about enjoying the ride, and feeling like there was no pressure anymore."

Because of that experience, Timberlake said that he wants Chasez to have the same chance to prove himself, on his own terms, away from the band.

"I want to sit back and support his record," Timberlake said. "Just as his friend, I want him to have every opportunity I had."

About Weird Al Presents: AL-TV
From 'The White Boy Polka" to the ever so sweet "Amish Paradise," Weird Al's favorite parody videos from the past along with new material that lampoons today's current music. Now the king of rock and roll parody is back doing what he does best: Goofin’ on -- and with all of your favorite music stars. From the mad, comic genius who brought the world such timeless classics as "Eat It" and "I’m Fat" comes WEIRD AL TV.
VH1 presents a one hour special through the always wacky world of popular music staring the infamous Weird Al Yankivic. Al gives his unique, comic view on everything music as he celebrates the release of his new album with a twisted look at the current state of music.

Using previously recorded interviews with Britney, Justin, Emenim and many other pop culture icons, Al gives his own irreverent spin to the "out-of-context" rock star interview. Al’s take on what’s happening in music news, who’s dating who, back stage brawls and music star melt downs.

It’s WEIRD Al TV-- one very strange man's look at the already bizarre world of pop music.

Justin's Videos, Live Show Collected On Two New DVDs
08.28.2003 4:48 PM EDT

The Justified and Stripped Tour may be close to folding up its tent in the U.S., but there'll be plenty of Justin Timberlake to keep fans occupied through the fall.

The solo 'NSYNC star will release the home video/DVD "Justified — The Videos" on September 23, followed by the in-concert "Live in London" on November 18, according to a spokesperson for the singer.

The 65-minute video compilation will feature all four videos from Timberlake's solo album, Justified, including the recent "Senorita" (see "Justin, Enjoying The Single Life, Gets Down With Horde Of 'Senoritas'") as well as a medley he performed at the 2003 Brit Awards that has not been shown in the States.

Included are "Cry Me a River," "Like I Love You" and "Rock Your Body," as well as excerpts from the MTV "Making the Video" specials for "Like I Love You" and "Rock Your Body." Other extras in the package are performances of "Like I Love You" at the 2002 VMAs and in Times Square, a "TRL" performance of "Cry Me a River" and excerpts from the MTV "Launch" special that looked at the making of Justified.

Timberlake's spokesperson said a track listing for "Live in London" is not yet available. The North American Justified and Stripped Tour will wrap up at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, on September 2, after which Timberlake will head overseas by himself for two more months of shows.

Report from JC's Jive showcase!
There are no words.

Thanks to some twists of fate and a guardian angel, I ended up inside
Show on 41st Street for JC's Jive showcase tonight.

I don't even know where to start. He was unreal. He had the place on
fire. The man is going to be a huge @#%$ star.

He performed four songs:
-A.D.I.D.A.S.
-Some song about not being able to get everything you want.
-Build My World
-Some Girls

It was a very small venue and I was 3 or 4 feet away from the stage
standing beside a Jive honcho and one of JC's people. His set started
with the beginning of BMU which played over and over again until a
woman walked up with a book that said "Schizophrenic." She read the
definition of "schizophrenic" and, while another woman came up on
stage, stripped a bit. (I think the point was that she was stripping
from one personality to another.)

Then the beats for ADIDAS started and JC came out on stage. There was
once photographer there some I'm hoping pictures surface. JC was
wearing brownish pants, a black sleeveless button down, and black
shoes. And he just took over the place.

I've never seen anything like it. He owned the stage and the audience
and he looked like he loved every single second of it. There were
four dancers with him-two at a time on stage with him for most of
this song. And the choreography was hot. Unbelievably hot.

Based on the performance, ADIDAS should be his first single. No
question. It got the greatest crowd response and is a whole different
song when you see it live. There was a dance break in the middle that
was @#%$ unreal.

I don't know the name of the second song but it was mid-tempo and he
sang about not being able to get everything you want. A great song. I
can't wait to hear it again.

Then JC sang Build My World. Before he started to sing the song, he
commented that he was going to slow things down. He knew we didn't
want to but the point was to mix it up.

Build My World melted me. It melted me into a puddle of goo.

And then he sang Some Girls. All four dancers were on stage with him.
Sex. Just pure sex. That's what the song was. Just like ADIDAS, Some
Girls had a dance break in the middle of the song. It was hot.

JC. There's nothing like watching JC do his thing full out on stage.
Just him and his music and his passion for it all. The man is going
to be a star. A bigger star. This is just the beginning. The guys
from Jive were all freaking out about how incredible he was. So was I.

After the show, he went outside and changed into jeans, a wife
beater, and a grey zip up sweatshirt thing and came back out to the
floor to take some promo pictures. I told him that he was outrageous.
Because he was.

I'm just so overwhelmed. It was JC I've never seen before. I've seen
him confident. I've seen him excited. I've seen him sharp. I've seen
him passionate. But I've never seen him be all of those things like
this. Solo.

He was born to do this. And I really think that everyone is about to
take notice.

Grateful doesn't even begin to cover it.

JC is doing a ton of print interviews
The same person who wrote about the showcase, posted this earlier
this morning:

JC is in NY and performing at the record label showcase this evening.

He is doing a ton of print interviews, mostly for overseas
publications. Two German magazines-Yam and Bravo. (Has anyone over in
Germany heard of these?) A Brazilian magazine called Capricio. He's
also doing an interview for Paper which is a US magazine and one of
the teen mags who's name escapes me at the moment.

Also, TV interviews. But most appear to be little bits for overseas
TV including MTV Asia.

Pretty substantial 48 hours for the kid. Hope he takes names.

JOJO gave major props to JC and he may perform at VMA's!
I'm listening and he said you guys are gonna have to pick up his cd
right when it comes out. And he wants to get him in the studio, I
guess someone mentioned about him. and JOJO said he may perform at
VMA's but it's not confirmed

edit:

Did we mention that JC Chasez literally blew the roof off the room with a four-song performance complete with a live band and dancers? JC is destined to match or even surpass the success of his fellow band mate Justin Timberlake. It was without question the highlight of a night filled with outstanding new music, that also featured killer performances by R&B crooner Joe and rockers Three Days Grace.

Missy, Justin, Johnny Cash, 50 And Eminem Top VMA Nominees List
07.24.2003 9:55 AM EDT

It may have been the year of 50 Cent, but he'll play second fiddle to Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake and country legend Johnny Cash heading into the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

(Click here for the complete list of the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards Nominees.)

Elliott led the pack with eight nominations for her eye-popping "Work It" video when the nods were announced Thursday morning (see "Lens Recap: The Story Behind Missy Elliott's 'Work It' "). The clip counts nominations for Video of the Year, Best Female Video, Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Direction in a Video among its stash.

Christina Aguilera and Coldplay were also unveiled as the first performers confirmed for the awards show when nominations were announced on Thursday.

Right behind Elliott with seven nominations is Justin Timberlake, who scored nods for his "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body" clips. "Cry Me a River" drummed up five nominations, including Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Pop Video, Best Direction in a Video and Viewers' Choice.

Close behind with six nominations is the field's most unlikely VMA hero, country legend Johnny Cash. Director Mark Romanek's haunting clip for Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" is up for Video of the Year, Best Male Video and Best Direction in a Video, among others (see "Lens Recap: The Story Behind Johnny Cash's 'Hurt' ").

"I am overwhelmed by this great honor," Cash said in a written statement." I thank you all for thinking of me. It's been 48 years since I cut my first record and it's nice that people are still digging them up."

Elliott, Timberlake and Cash will tangle with the one-two punch of Eminem ("Lose Yourself") and 50 Cent ("In Da Club") for Video of the Year when the awards are handed out on August 28 in New York.

Complete list of 2003 MTV Video Music Awards Nominees

Em and 50 are also looking to have a big night, as each will head into this year's VMAs with five nominations. In addition to Video of the Year, Em's "Lose Yourself" is also up for Best Male Video, Best Rap Video, Best Video From a Film and Viewer's Choice. 50's "In Da Club" will try to steal a bit of Em's spotlight, as 50 will compete with his mentor for Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Rap Video and Viewer's Choice. The clip also nabbed 50 a nomination for Best New Artist.

Radiohead ("There There"), Jennifer Lopez ("I'm Glad"), Christina Aguilera ("Dirrty"), Beyoncé ("Crazy in Love") and the White Stripes ("Seven Nation Army") all garnered four nominations, as did Queens of the Stone Age, who spread their nominations out a bit; the group earned one nomination for "No One Knows" and three for "Go With the Flow."

Coldplay, Good Charlotte, Kelly Clarkson, Sean Paul, Floetry, Mya, No Doubt, Sum 41, Justin Timberlake, Kenna, Evanescence and Avril Lavigne also earned multiple nominations.

Once again, "new" might be a relative term when the year's Best New Artist is anointed. In addition to 50 Cent (who already feels like he's been around for years), the nominee field also includes Sean Paul, who released his first album three years ago before breaking through last year. Adding new blood to the Best New Artist hunt are Simple Plan, All-American Rejects, Evanescence and "American Idol" grad Kelly Clarkson.

Clarkson and 50 will also square off for this year's Viewer's Choice award, going up against Beyoncé, Eminem, Good Charlotte and Justin Timberlake.

Meanwhile, in less populist territory, the notion of art over commerce drives the noms for Breakthrough Video. Coldplay's "The Scientist," Floetry's "Floetic," Kenna's "Freetime," Queens of the Stone Age's "No One Knows" and Sum 41's "Hell Song" are up for this year's honor.

The 2003 fleet of Moonmen will be handed out August 28 at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. The 2003 VMAs, hosted by Chris Rock, will be broadcast live on MTV at 8 p.m. ET. The show will be immediately preceded by MTV News' live pre-show coverage.

Justin, Enjoying The Single Life, Gets Down With Horde Of 'Senoritas'
07.18.2003 1:35 PM EDT

Justin Timberlake certainly knows how to enjoy the single life.

The singer just wrapped up his latest video for the song "Senorita" and in the clip he's not just wooing one or two girls, but a room full of bodacious beauties.

Timberlake, who's currently on tour with Christina Aguilera on the Justified and Stripped Tour, is at his most provocative on the song, the fourth single from his multiplatinum solo album, Justified (see "Justin Promises Spectacle, Special Guest On Christina Tour").

With a vibe that conjures up the dusty, sultry imagery of a Spanish roadhouse, Timberlake is in full playa mode, surrounded by — as a label rep put it — lots of "Latin mamis" for the Spanish-themed song.

Last month, at his tour kickoff in Phoenix (see "Christina Does Her Cher Impression, Justin Fights The Screams At Tour Kickoff"), Timberlake was asked about the concept of the video, which was then still in the idea stage. Would he be aiming his affections at just one lovely lady? "No," the pop star said. "Why should you limit yourself to just one?"

Indeed.

Timberlake performs with his live band in the video. On select dates during his continental trek with Aguilera, Timberlake and his band have been performing special late-night after-parties dubbed the "Show After the Show" (see "It's Justin Timberlake Gone Wild At Late-Night Club Show").

Paul Hunter, who has directed videos for Eminem, Lenny Kravitz and Mya, shot the clip at a club in Los Angeles. The video also features cameos by both Pharrell Wiliams and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, who produced the song.

JC Chasez 'Really, Really Happy' With Album, But Pushes Back Release Date
07.18.2003 7:55 AM EDT

JC Chasez has pushed back the release date of his debut solo album from August 26 to October 21 to allow for more time to record.

The 'NSYNC singer has also set the album title as Schizophrenic, one of a few he was considering, including The Truth (see "JC Chasez Previews Schizophrenic Solo Debut").

Along with Justin Timberlake, Chasez has been an active songwriter for 'NSYNC, co-authoring four songs on Celebrity and three on No Strings Attached. Compared to his songs for the group, which were tweaked by the other members and producers, he calls his solo material "polished demos."

"It's basically the raw idea from the beginning, you know, it stays true," Chasez said at a studio in April. "There's always compromises being made [with 'NSYNC], because you know you're the voice of five people, not just yourself. And that's totally the right thing, because it's a group and you want to speak for the group, you don't want to speak for yourself."

Other producers Chasez worked with on Schizophrenic include Dallas Austin (TLC), R&B hitmaker Rodney Jerkins, newcomer Rob Boldt and BT, the electronic music guru behind "Pop."

"I kind of sailed into this whole project not wanting to think about it, just wanting to let it flow out of me," Chasez said. "And I've done that up to this point and I'm really, really, really happy with it because I explored so many different sounds."

Hey everyone, I haven't posted in a LONG time so I don't know if you even remember me but I used to be a regular on this board. On Sat. I saw Justin/Christina in St. Louis. I waited until the day of the show to buy tickets and we got fifth row at the side of the stage. It was an awesome concert! I had heard not-so-good reviews from people that had seen Christina a few years ago so I didn't know what to expect. But she was great! She has a really good voice and her performance was excellent. And of course, Justin was outstanding. His vocals got better and better every song. I was so proud of him up there doing his thing. It was weird not to have the other four guys up there too but it was fine because this was his own thing. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole show. Even my boyfriend (who got dragged along, aww, what a sweetie) who doesn't care for either one of them thought it was a great show. I would highly recommend going to see this show, it is worth every penny! :)

Just decided to stop by and I see that Magda is still posting away. Its such a pleasure to see you're still here, girl. I miss the activity that this board used to have. It seems like a lifetime ago.

I'm still just as big a fan of NSYNC as I was then. I still love Joey, more than normal. Even though he's breaking my heart by getting married. Yeah, I know I had no chance and that he's been with her for years, but a girl can dream, can't she?

Went to see Justin last night. He was great. It was a big debate on whether I was going to go or not. I miss the group and I really want to see them together again. I'm going to be at CFTC this year as well and I need to save all the money that I can. So buying a concert ticket wasn't in the plans. But I did it and I'm glad that I did. I really enjoyed his show a lot. Christina was great too.

That's all I've got for now.

I hope that if any of the old-timers are still around, you guys are doing okay.

Take Care

Go to this website http://www.digitaljcchasez.net/sounds.html

They listed 5 songs which are:

1-A.D.I.D.A.S.
2-Come to Me
3-Build My World
4-One Night Stand
5-Some Girls Dance With Women

In my opinion I like "Build my world" and "One night stand" so far.. The song "a.d.i.d.a.s" doesn't really sound like him,the voice is too different. It sound like some guy with accent.

I hope his other songs will showcase more of his voice.

I don't know how they got the songs because I don't see it at onlyartist.com website.

I hope everyone had a Happy 4th Of July Today!

"I just froze for a second. So I was like, 'Hey, will you marry me?' " — 'NSYNC's Joey Fatone

Sorry, girls ... Joey Fatone is officially off the market.

The 'NSYNC member announced Tuesday night that after 10 years of dating — and having a child together — he has asked his girlfriend to marry him.

Fatone told CBS' "Late Late Show" host Craig Kilborn that he popped the question to longtime girlfriend Kelly Baldwin on June 18 in Orlando, Florida. "It was exciting, it was fun," Fatone said.

He said Baldwin had always wanted to be proposed to at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, where she had never been, so he brought the 88-year-old Greco-Roman structure to her, in the form of a billboard about 56 feet wide and 20 feet tall that he set up in front of his house. He commissioned the billboard through "a friend of mine that works in an ad agency that does the billboards in Times Square, like, the really big billboards," he said.

"So when I drove up, I said, 'What's the one place that I didn't take you?' So we drove up, she saw the Palace of Fine Arts [billboard], I went on my knees, got all teary-eyed, and I just froze for a second. So I was like, 'Hey, will you marry me?' "

Baldwin is the mother of Fatone's 2-year-old daughter, Brianna. A wedding date has not yet been announced.

Now that he's flying high with a hit record and one of the only successful tours of the summer, Justin Timberlake is unstoppable and afraid of nothing — not even a little SARS.

The pop star will join the Rolling Stones and a host of other artists and celebrities at an eight-hour concert in Toronto on July 30 to revive tourism and spirit in the city following the wane in both that hit after the city was hit by a highly publicized outbreak of the infectious disease SARS.

The event will take place at Downsview Park and will be hosted by the Canadian federal government, the province of Ontario, the city of Toronto and the beer manufacturer Molson. Other artists who will appear include AC/DC, the Flaming Lips, the Isley Brothers, the Guess Who, Sass Jordan, Sam Roberts and Kathleen Edwards. Dan Akroyd and Jim Belushi will host the concert.

Tickets are $16 ($21.50 in Canada) and will go on sale Friday. One dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to the newly created Health Care and Hospitality Workers Relief Fund. Net proceeds will also go to the fund.

In order to schedule their two-hour set, the Rolling Stones were forced to postpone one show in Spain and cancel another.

Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, Sarah McLachlan and others performed a similar benefit show this past Saturday in Toronto (see "Avril Lavigne, Sum 41 Work To Fight Toronto's SARS Woes").

WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — A good bar band singer knows the importance of conversing with the patrons.

"Did you come to have fun?" Justin Timberlake asked after taking the House of Blues stage early Tuesday morning (June 17) for his first crack at what he's dubbed the Show After the Show. "The point of this is to have fun." (Click for photos from the show.)

And fun it was, yet it certainly seemed there were other reasons for JT — as he was billed — to play a club show a few hours after the lights went up on the Justified and Stripped Tour at the Staples Center.

Mainly, the gig allowed Timberlake to completely shed his pop-star skin, as his six-song, 45-minute show included no preprogrammed tracks, rehearsed choreography or ostentatious stage props. Instead, the lucky fans who swiped up $35 tickets when the show was announced three days earlier saw the former boy-band pinup fronting a funk group, freestyling entire songs and playing guitar.

The show was so laid-back that one of Justin's friends sat on the side of the stage the entire time, washing Jack Daniel's swigs down with a can of Coke. It was so different from an 'NSYNC performance that when Joey Fatone and Lance Bass bumrushed the mic to congratulate the singer, it took a few seconds to remember how they knew each other. Really.

Timberlake apparently came up with the idea for the Show After the Show, a series of club appearances along his arena tour itinerary, as a special treat to fans. However, judging by the smile on his baby face Tuesday, it was just as much a treat for himself.

The curtains opened around 1 a.m. with four backup singers and a five-piece band gradually building up a groove. Justin strolled on nonchalantly to music so funky it took his singing "You were my sun/ You were my earth" to recognize it was "Cry Me a River."

Timberlake may be the hottest emerging R&B star, but this show was more a mix of neo-soul and rock, like a male Nikka Costa or Los Angeles' own Maroon 5.

Wearing a Girls Gone Wild mesh cap and blue "Lite Beer" T-shirt, Justin took "Cry Me a River" to unexplored territory, prompting the band to jam through an extended bridge and then strip the music down for some a cappella harmonies. At one point he screamed, "Bitch, why do you cry to me?," prompting massive applause.

"We're all adults here," Timberlake said later to the 21-and-up crowd.

Timberlake and his band next had a field day with the Neptunes' Latin-flavored beat on "Senorita," which the singer began with some impromptu scat.

"This is my lover's anthem," Justin said next, picking up a guitar to gently strum along to an extended version of the steamy ballad "Take It From Here."

The song that followed began much the same way, with Timberlake repeating, "Fly the night away," but the music suddenly stopped and he busted into the guitar opening of "Like I Love You," which thanks to the band sounded like it could have been a rock radio hit.

When it came time for the Clipse's guest rap, Justin told the band to "repeat the bridge," which gave plenty of time for Fatone and Bass to stumble onstage for some dancing and, in Lance's case, air guitar.

After accidentally knocking Bass' beer out of his hand, Fatone grabbed the mic. "This boy is now a man," Joey said to Justin. "You are my inspiration, man. No bullsh--."

"Joey Fatone," Timberlake answered to roars. "That's a reason to make another 'NSYNC album right there.

"Now get off the stage," he joked.

Justin needed to clear the space for his next guest, Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am, who freestyled to Timberlake's beatboxing. The two said they had never rehearsed, which made the section where they slowed the jam to a crawl and then fired it up to a rapid pace even more impressive.

The band then took over his beatboxing so Justin could match Will's rhymes with some freestyling of his own — dancing. While certainly inspired by Michael Jackson, the moves appeared to be made up as the song went on and included some unique robotic twists.

For the finale, Timberlake promised to "play my hit" before the band broke into "Rock Your Body." Toward the middle, after singing "Said the air is thick, it's smelling right," he changed the line "So you blast to the left and you sail to the right" to "So you pass to the left and you pass to the right," while motioning the passing of a joint.

Definitely not a typical Justin Timberlake show.

"It's going to be interesting when we sit down and decide what kind of direction we want to go. I have no clue what [the next 'NSYNC record] is going to be like." — Joey Fatone

Scott Stapp and humor hardly go hand in hand, but Joey Fatone is doing his best to change that.

The 'NSYNC singer is parodying Creed's "Higher" on his upcoming comedy album.

"I want to do 'Can You Change My Tire?' " Fatone said Monday. "Just silly stuff, something stupid like that."

Creed are Fatone's first victims outside of his own 'NSYNC circle. He's working on JC Chasez's "Blowin' Me Up (With Her Love)" and has already tackled Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River."

"I'm doing 'Buy Me a Liver,' about drinking too much alcohol," he said.

The as-yet-untitled album, which is still in the beginning stages, will include other parodies as well, but Fatone plans on doing more original material than spoofs.

"There's a song called 'Slurpee' and one called 'A Little Bit of Corpse,' " he said. "It's interesting. I'm slowly writing, it's nothing major yet."

The album isn't expected anytime soon, as Fatone has been busy hosting "Fame" (see "Fatone Says Topless Dancers 'Ruined That Wholesome Thing I Had Going' "). And when the show ends, he'll go right into working on the next 'NSYNC album.

"It's going to be interesting when we sit down and decide what kind of direction we want to go," he said. "I have no clue what it's going to be like."

Spending time in the studio with 'NSYNC shouldn't be too different than writing his comedy album. According to Chasez, Fatone has a habit of parodying most of the band's material (see "JC Chasez Says Weird Al's Got Nothing On Joey Fatone").

"Unfortunately I can't really release a lot of those on album because it'd be too dirty," Fatone said. "I have to tone it down a little."

Joey Fatone To Play Lounge Singer In 'Cool' New Flick
05.19.2003

While 'NSYNC are lying low, Joey Fatone has been rolling the dice with his acting career. Fatone, who made his most recent onscreen appearance in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," is set to appear next in "The Cooler," a movie about casino life in Las Vegas.

According to a spokesperson for Lions Gate Films, the flick, which also stars William H. Macy, Alec Baldwin, Maria Bello and Estella Warren, tells the story of a gambler so unlucky that his bad fortune rubs off on anyone near him. One of the last mob-run casinos in Vegas decides to use him to "cool off" their hottest winners, but to the casino's chagrin, things heat back up when he meets his lady luck in the form of a cocktail waitress.

Fatone will play a lounge singer named Johnny Cappella, who has his own ideas about how things should be done. The film will hit theaters in November.

Lance Bass To Star In 'Gatsby' Film With Paris Hilton
05.09.2003

"I'm writing my first horror film right now, called 'Imaginary Friend.' It should be along the lines of that old fun Freddy Krueger-type stuff." — Lance Bass

So what does Lance Bass have in common with hotel heiress Paris Hilton?

Well, besides being blonde and getting invited to socialite-stuffed shindigs, the 'NSYNC vocalist and the older half of the model/actress Hilton sisters are teaming up for the latest Hollywood take on an F. Scott Fitzgerald classic.

"[It's] a remake along the lines of 'The Great Gatsby,' but younger," Bass explained at Wednesday's "Matrix Reloaded" premiere in Los Angeles (see "Durst, Bass, Zombie, 'Matrix' Cast Turn Out For 'Reloaded' Premiere"). Bass will star in the currently-in-development flick, one of many he has on his plate.

"I'm writing my first horror film right now, called 'Imaginary Friend,' " he added. "It should be along the lines of that old fun Freddy Krueger-type stuff. ... We've got a nice imaginary friend-type [slasher character] that will scare the bejesus out of ya'."

An avid horror film fan, Bass said he's bummed he's not part of this fall's "Freddy vs. Jason" film (see "Freddy Vs. Jason: A Match Made in Hell"). "I was so mad 'cause I didn't know they were filming it [until they were finished]. I would have begged to die in that movie. That would've been my dream."

But he has plenty of other projects through his A Happy Place production company, including "some kids movies," to tide him over.

Lance's film and television work, JC Chasez's solo album (see "JC Chasez Previews Schizophrenic Solo Debut"), Joey Fatone's comedy record, Chris Kirkpatrick's managing work with the band Ohno, and Justin Timberlake's summer tour (see "New 'NSYNC In 2004, But First A Joey Fatone Comedy LP") will keep 'NSYNC from reconvening anytime soon, and it looks like Justin could be next to follow in Lance and Joey's Tinseltown footsteps.

Timberlake has been sent several scripts in the last few months, including "Superman," though a spokesperson for the singer said it was unclear whether they wanted him to read for the lead role or Super pal Jimmy Olsen. And since that project currently has no director attached (see " 'Superman' Movie Still Has No Superman, And Now Has No Director") and Timberlake has television and tour commitments (see "Justin Timberlake: The Next John Madden?" and "Justin Timberlake/ Christina Aguilera Tour Dates Announced"), it will likely be some time before he commits to any new projects.

Christina, Justin Tix Being Auctioned To Aid Iraqi Orphan
05.08.2003

Tickets from Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera's upcoming tour will be auctioned off to raise money to bring a burned Iraqi orphan to America for medical treatment.

The Global Medical Relief Fund is organizing the effort to save Ali Ismail Abbas, a 12-year-old boy who was severely injured in an Operation Iraqi Freedom missile strike that killed his family.

The Black Eyed Peas, who are opening on the Justified and Stripped Tour, donated the tickets, and Arnold Schwarzenegger has donated an autographed T-shirt for the child, according to Cheryl Shuman, a spokesperson for the organization. Timberlake and Aguilera are not directly involved.

Abbas, who has become a symbol of Iraqi civilian suffering in the press, is undergoing medical care in Kuwait for burns on 60 percent of his body. Both of his arms were partially amputated in Baghdad in April.

The Global Medical Relief Fund is a nonprofit organization that helps children who have lost limbs from war, national disaster or illness.

In related news, Aguilera is auctioning off Justified and Stripped Tour tickets and backstage passes on the Web site www.stubhub.com. Proceeds will go to the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh.

Fans have another way to get backstage on the tour. Aguilera is organizing what she's calling the Xposed Velvet Rope Xperience, a package that includes a guaranteed seat in the first 10 rows, a pre-show backstage tour and an after party. The deal is available to members of her official fan club, Xposed.

Justin Timberlake: The Next John Madden?
05.07.2003

As if having a successful solo career weren't enough, Justin Timberlake is determined to prove that he's got game — literally.

The 'NSYNC singer has signed on as a special correspondent to cover sports for both TNT and TBS, the networks announced Tuesday.

Timberlake's new job as a sportscaster will find him reporting from a variety of sports events for TNT, including the NBA regular season and playoffs, NASCAR races and the PGA Championship. For TBS, he'll appear at major-league baseball games and Big 12 and Pac-10 college football games.

"Justin's interest and enthusiasm not only in the NBA, but in all sports, should help provide our broadcasts with a new, fresh approach," Turner Sports executive producer Mike Pearl said in a statement.

For one of his first assignments, Timberlake teamed with Magic Johnson for a feature called "The NBA Playoffs ... Justified." Timberlake described the skills of "new school" stars, which Johnson compared to "old school" legends, in between shooting some hoops themselves. The spots begin airing this week.

This isn't Timberlake's first venture into sports, or first run-in with Johnson. Besides having recently appeared on "Inside the NBA" with Michael Jordan, he's taken part in the NBA All-Star Weekend for the past two years, and the singer played against Johnson in February 2002's "989 Sports All-Star Hoop It Up" (the event aired live on TNT). In that game, Timberlake hit a long-range jumper over now-fellow TNT analyst Kenny Smith, who won two championships with the Houston Rockets.

Where's Your Head At? JC Chasez's Is In Electronic Music
05.02.2003

GLENDALE, California — While Justin Timberlake has become the hot collaboration in hip-hop, JC Chasez is claiming the title in electronic music.

Just weeks after lending his voice to BT's new release (see "BT Secretive About 'NSYNC Payback On Upcoming Album"), the 'NSYNC star has recorded a track with British dance duo Basement Jaxx.

The collaboration came together during a visit Chasez made to London last month. "I was visiting people I listen to who aren't here in the States and ended up running into the Basement Jaxx," JC said. "Those guys are really, really cool, really creative. The stuff they come up with is out of this world."

Chasez watched the duo at work for a few hours before they asked if he would go into the vocal booth.

"They were like, 'We've got this song we're working on. We just need you to maybe sing some stuff over it or just go with the flow. And here are some of the words. If you want to say some of the words, you say 'em. If you don't, it's cool, just kind of sing and make some up,' '' Chasez recalled. "I was like, 'OK, why not?' "

JC spent a few hours goofing around in the booth but didn't think much of it until the guys called him back the next day.

"They're like, 'Man, we've cut all this stuff together, and man, it's brilliant.' 'It's brilliant,' that's what they say in England," Chasez said, laughing. "They were like, 'We just need you to come in for another hour tomorrow, dude, and we got some layout here and we'll just clean it all up.' ... Who knows if they'll use it or if they won't, but either way it was just fun to work with those guys."

Basement Jaxx have yet to set a track list or release date for their follow-up to 2001's Rooty, which included the hit "Where's Your Head At" (see "Basement Jaxx Stay On Point For Rooty"), according to their spokesperson.

Chasez, meanwhile, is putting the finishing touches on his debut, which so far is without any guest vocalists (see "JC Chasez Previews Schizophrenic Solo Debut").

"[Collaborations] aren't supposed to be contrived," he said. "You're supposed to be hanging out. That's just the way I feel about stuff. I just want things to feel good and flow, and if you're into it, you're into it, and if you're not, I don't want it to be about dollar signs. I want it to be about doing a cool song."

"I think fans can expect to see a spectacle. I'll always come with something aesthetically pleasing." — Justin Timberlake

It's not entirely official, but it looks like Justin Timberlake's contribution to this summer's soundtrack will be Justified's steamy opening track, "Senorita."

"When I heard [the music] I felt this groovy summer thing," the singer said Tuesday (May 20), beatboxing the Neptunes beat. So for the lyrics Timberlake crafted a summer tale, creating the subject in his head rather than basing it on his own life, like he did with "Cry Me a River."

"On that sunny day/ Didn't know I'd meet," he sings in the opening verse. "Such a beautiful girl/ Walking down the street/ Seen those bright brown eyes/ With tears coming down/ She deserves a crown."

"When I wrote it, when me and Pharrell [Williams] were collaborating on it, I just kind of envisioned walking down a hot street, beads of sweat on everybody, and just seeing this dark-haired, voluptuous, dark-skinned creature, this girl, walking down the street," Timberlake explained in a conference call with journalists just before he took a London stage. "You're like, 'Man, I wonder what I could say to her to make her head spin.' We automatically created the scenario: 'What if she was in a situation with another guy and he wasn't treating her right?' "

Timberlake at first said he was leaning toward "Senorita" to follow up "Rock Your Body," but then about 30 minutes later he declared, "I've made my mind up." Video plans are not yet in the works.

Justin also revealed some details about his portion of the upcoming Justified and Stripped Tour (see "Justin Timberlake/ Christina Aguilera Tour Dates Announced"). The singer will perform with eight dancers and a 14-piece band, including four backup singers, three horn players and a DJ.

"I've added to the live sound that is already on the record," Timberlake said.

There will be elaborate production features, but Justin's spending more time working on rearranging his songs than on the look of the show.

"I think fans can expect to see a spectacle. I'll always come with something aesthetically pleasing, but at the same time ... I don't think you'll walk away thinking it took away from the music," he said. "My favorite moments are when I stand by myself and sing."

Timberlake said he will likely bring up special guests at select shows, including the Neptunes' Williams, but an onstage collaboration with Christina Aguilera is still just in talks.

"The first couple of weeks will be getting used to doing the show," Timberlake said. "We did this tour because we both have an appreciation for each other's music and talent, so the possibility is always there."

He said the tour came about because both he and Christina wanted to give their fans two for the price of one. "And even though this is her second album and my first, I think we are at similar places in our career where we want to break the mold of what people look at as teen pop and move into a different direction," he added.

Timberlake returns from Europe this week, and after hosting the MTV Movie Awards, which air June 5, he'll kick off the tour June 6 in Phoenix, a city he's excited to be in for a few days. "I'm looking forward to playing the Raven," he said, referring to Phoenix's famous golf course.

50 Cent, Biggie, Justin Timberlake On 'Bad Boys 2' Soundtrack
04.28.2003

It's only right that the first Bad Boy album to be released off of P. Diddy's new distribution deal with Universal Records be called "Bad Boys."

P.D. called upon some of his buddies to hand in tracks for the soundtrack to "Bad Boys 2," which like the first film stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. According to a source in the Bad Boy camp, in addition to new songs by Puff and some artists on his label like Loon, Carl Thomas, Cherri Dennis and Black Rob, 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, Fat Joe, Nelly, Lenny Kravitz, Beyoncé Knowles, and the Neptunes will all appear on the album, as will the Notorious B.I.G.

The first single is set to be Jay-Z's "La, La, La (Excuse Me Again)," which is a sequel to "Excuse Me Miss." Loon's duet with Kelis, "How You Want That," is slated to be the B-side offering. Both songs are currently being played on the radio and have videos on tap. A director for Jay's clip is still being secured, while Lil' X is locked in to direct Loon and Kelis.

Elsewhere on the LP, 50 Cent's duet with Notorious B.I.G., "The Realest N---as," will finally find an official home. There will also be a 50 and G-Unit posse cut on the soundtrack.

Speaking of mic collaborations, tag-teaming seems to be a popular concept on the soundtrack. Diddy joined St. Lunatics Nelly and Murphy Lee on a track that is still untitled, and he linked with Lenny Kravitz and Pharrell Williams for "Show Me Your Soul." The crooning Neptunes producer is said to rap on his verse. Not to be left out, Foxy Brown guest stars on Mario Winans' "Pretty Girl Bullsh--."

Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake opted to go the solo route, contributing "Keep Givin' Your Love" and "I Love You," respectively. Rounding off the soundtrack will be the club smash "Uh Oh," by 19-year-old newcomer Lumidee, who just signed to Universal/Motown Records, and "Girl, I'm a Bad Boy" by Fat Joe.

While the "Bad Boys 2" soundtrack, due July 15, will be the first release from Bad Boy this year, other albums aren't far off. Dream will drop their sophomore LP on August 12 (see "Dream Get 'Krazy' With Loon On New LP Featuring P. Diddy") and Loon's self-titled debut is due August 26. "Bad Boys 2" hits theaters July 18.

JC Chasez Previews Schizophrenic Solo Debut
04.22.2003

"There's a lot of weird stuff going on in my brain, but I think it's stuff that everybody relates to." — JC Chasez

GLENDALE, California — One of the titles JC Chasez is considering for his solo debut is Schizophrenic, the word he uses to explain its multiple flavors.

While 'NSYNC's other resident songwriter, Justin Timberlake, chose a mostly R&B route for his first record, Chasez is all over the map.

"I have a lot more live music on it, but I also have electronica pieces in there 'cause I love that stuff," JC said during a break at one of the studios where he's been recording. "My favorite kind of stuff is super-hype music when I'm in the club, or something to really zone out to so I can drive my car and kind of forget about everything. ... I definitely incorporated the electronica, but I've also taken the very raw elements as well and mashed the two into this big noisy pit of tones and timing and melody."

Like Timberlake, Chasez parades his Michael Jackson influence. However, while previewing several of the tracks on Thursday, other names came to his mind, like Prince, Seal and Jamiroquai. One of the dance ditties uses the beat from Corey Hart's 1983 single "Sunglasses at Night," while a more rock track is carried by handclaps.

So far, JC has cooked up his musical smorgasbord with a variety of producers, including electronic music maestro BT, R&B hitmaker Rodney Jerkins, Riprock 'n' Alex G (Christina Aguilera) and newcomer Rob Boldt.

"My goal in making this record was to have a lot of fun, so basically I just ended up working with my friends," Chasez explained. "BT and I became friends when we worked on the 'NSYNC record ['Pop'] and I had kind of looked up to his stuff. We ended up hanging out and so what did we do? We worked together" (see "BT Secretive About 'NSYNC Payback On Upcoming Album").

"[Riprock 'n' Alex G], I've known them for years; we used to live together," he continued. "I didn't want a fabricated record so I didn't go make calls and say, 'This guy's a hitmaker, so I need a hit right now.' I took a hippie mentality to it. 'Dude, let's hang out and write tunes all day.' "

With Jerkins, who hails from JC's home city of Orlando, Florida, the singer and the producer pulled each other in different directions.

"He made it more sparse than maybe I'm used to," Chasez recalled. "And I did some weird melodic things with him. I started singing all this weird stuff over it. And he's like, 'Whatever you're doing, it's weird, but it's cool.' We just found our place in the middle."

Lately, JC's been in Boldt's studio, where he's been writing songs on a grand piano and recording them with live musicians, including experimental keyboardist Roger Manning Jr. (Beck, Air). He's also composed and recorded string sections.

"The stuff that I do with Rob is very organic," Chasez said. "I didn't think radio or club at all; I thought purely musical. It pushed me as a musician, which I enjoyed 'cause when you set the tone and the level of that musically it pushes you more as a songwriter. You think, 'Man, I have to think of something that's good enough to go with this lyrically.' "

When it comes to writing lyrics, JC can be quirky — as in songs about getting hit by a cannonball or falling in love with an alien — but mostly he tells it like is. In fact, his other contender for a title is The Truth.

"Even though I have a barrage of material in my mind, it comes out very succinct and very clean, simple and truthful," he explained. "It can be anything from being out or, of course, the classic thing, being in love or maybe falling out of love. There's a lot of weird stuff going on in my brain, but I think it's stuff that everybody relates to. There's songs about sex, there's songs about drugs, there's songs about relationships."

One of the other voices on the album, in a more figurative sense, is JC's fanbase. After finishing his first song, the "Drumline" soundtrack's "Blowin' Me Up (With Her Love)" (see "JC Chasez, Tara Reid Find Love Among Wreckage For 'Blowin' Me Up' "), he put it on his Web site, www.onlyartist.com, and asked fans for feedback (see "JC Chasez Ready To Receive Your Love And/Or Criticism").

"Since 'NSYNC's been chilling and we haven't been on the road or in contact with all our fans and everything, I needed to find a way to interact with them," Chasez explained. "I also wanted to show my appreciation. I'm gonna put songs out there, not only from my record, but I'm going to give them something free. After I'm done putting together my album, I want to give them something special because I want them to know that I still care."

A lot of the e-mails JC receives are ideas about other rappers or singers he should work with.

"That seems to be the big thing right now, collaborations," he said. "[But] if I end up collaborating with somebody, I want it to be spur of the moment. I refuse to have it planned out. I think that's going to take away from the whole process."

A release date has not yet been set for the record, but Chasez plans to finish it in the next couple of weeks, after working with Dallas Austin. The recording sessions will find JC coming full circle, as Austin produced "Blowin' Me Up" and was the person who convinced him to do a solo album. Before that, the 'NSYNC star was reading scripts.

"He's like, 'You've got too much to say. You know, there's no reason why you shouldn't. You're writing songs anyway,' " Chasez recalled. "And I kind of went home and looked myself in the mirror and was like, 'Dude, you're not an actor. I don't know what you're thinking with that pile of books and stuff like that over there.' I do that stuff to take my mind off of doing music, but at the end of the day I want to be in the studio. I had to look myself in the face and go, 'You can do TV shows, but remember that's not what you do for a living, dude. You do records for a living.' "
