I completely agree with Marissa's statements above. Just as Ms. Biesecker stated, a positive genetic test is not always the worst news because family inheritance is only a small percentage in the overall picture of breast cancer "causes". Furthermore, just to solidify Marissa's thoughts above, a positive genetic test could give Sherry strength and time to prepare herself for the official onset of the disease. Sufficient time will allow Sherry to take care of things she needs to. Moreover, this news will probably awaken Sherry to her risk of breast cancer and she should go to her physician and get a mammogram, ultrasound, or MRI to see if she does indeed have breast cancer, and if so, how far along the tumor is in development. If the cancer is caught in an early stage, Sherry has a better chance of recovery. On the other hand, a negative test is not exactly the best news either. Lani could still be afflicted with the disease because the genetic test can't prove whether or not she does indeed have breast cancer. Lani could be falsely directed and may not feel the need to go see her physician for a yearly mammogram. In the meantime, Lani could develop a serious and malignant breast cancer tumor, all because she was falsely given security by a genetic test.
