I do indeed agree with Kara that a need for control can be a good enough reason to get tested for a genetic disorder. I agree with Kara that it is a responsible thing to do to help prepare one's family for the potential. However, I also think that in some instances, a need for control is not always an appropriate reason to be tested. Sometimes, it may be better to not know the potential implications of a genetic disease and to just let nature take its course. It really does depend on the individual's personality. Some people may not want that knowledge hanging over their heads; the knowledge that they do have the gene for a genetic disease. For some people, they would rather live their life as they had for years. But for others, it is essential that they know where their life is going, so they can plan, as Kara said. In general, I would say, people probably would want to have that control in their lives, so they would get tested.
