I agree, Angelique. I too would feel incredibly guilty if I was spared a genetic disease and my sister was not. Although I am intelligent enough to know that it was no one’s fault that one of us developed the disease, it is human nature to still feel guilt over things that cannot be changed. If I were the one with the disease I also hope I would be strong enough to not feel secretly resentful at my sister’s good fortune. However, at first I think anyone would naturally feel jealous and bitter that they were the one randomly chosen. Of course, I would get over these feelings in time, and welcome my sister’s support.
