In reply to: Sister Karen 's message, "Case Study: Testing Family Bonds" on 14:22:39 11/03/03 Mon

If I received a genetic mutation that my sister did not, I hope that I would have the sense not to resent her; rather, I should feel gratitude that she was spared. Jealousy would only aggravate the situation, and in circumstances when I need comfort and understanding, self-isolation hardly seems wise. Besides, the disease already has a chance of reducing our relationship, and I could never afford to prematurely lose my sibling to something that might very well take more from me, be it energy, health, etc. If I escaped a genetic mutation that my sister did not, I would probably feel incredibly remorseful that I cannot share in my sister’s debilitating experiences, so besides researching the mutation and its remedies, I would search for others who have the disease. Though my sister might be the only member of the family with the disease, she should know that she is never alone. If I cannot relate to her experiences, I can find someone else who can.
