In reply to: Marissa LT 's message, "Question 3" on 17:47:08 12/10/03 Wed

It is true that breast cancer can be caused by many other factors other than genetics. I know of many women who were afflicted and had no warning or genetic hint. I think that Marissa makes a valid point by stating that Lani should not think that a negative test is absolutely fact. The security that a negative test is only superficial. It is for only one type of disease, and with the many external elements that can cause so many diseases it seems rather foolish to simply assume that that person completely safe. On the flip side, if a women is in a family which has been completely distroyed by breast cancer maybe it is just reassuring that she will not meet the same fate as her mother did. I think that the idea and fear are real factors but can not be direct indication of a person's future.
