Subject: Power and Responsibilities

If there is one thing that has bothered me about BUFFY was this belief on Buffy's part that she had no choice but to spend her life killing vampires and demons, because of her powers as the Slayer. All of this, because of three shamans that had casted a spell. Like the time she had a choice to go to Northwestern, she had remained in Sunnydale because she felt that she had no choice. This made no sense to me. Of course she had a choice. There was no rule that Buffy had to remain in Sunnydale to continue her Slayer duties. Demons and vampires did not exist only in Sunnydale. Hell, Buffy had become a Slayer in another city - namely Los Angeles. I also found it disturbing that not only Buffy, but the other characters and the fans believed that she had no choice but to be the Slayer, because of her powers. Does this belief comes from this "with great powers come great responsibility" nonsense from the SPIDER-MAN movies?
