Subject: venous fly?

This topic has come up before. Try searching the archives on terms like "vampire 'blood flow' erection" or "vampire windpipe strangling." Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure there was a thread called "Vampire physiology."

Vamps don't need to breathe, but they still have working diaphragms. No reason they can't use them to pull air into their lungs, which can still inflate, along w/cigarette smoke if they want (so yes, it is a vacuum effect!). I always figured that was how they talked too, till Angel said, "Guess what I'm doing now? Not using my windpipe" when Spanky was strangling him. That just doesn't make sense. Even if vamp throat muscles are so strong they can keep the windpipe from being compressed, he'd still need to use it to talk. Of course, the whole "I can't give Buffy mouth-to-mouth, I have no breath" thing doesn't make sense either, at least on a physiological level.

As for blood circulation, here's my wank on it: Just as regular muscle contraction is strong enough to send blood back through the veins to the heart in living humans, vampires' stronger muscle contractions are enough to move blood through their arteries as well. So their arterial circulation uses the same mechanism as normal venous circulation. (It might still be hard to get enough blood up to the brain, though,.) And male vamps might be able to get an erection by reflex local muscle contraction pushing extra blood into the penis, along w/the usual dilation of blood vessels inside it. There ya go--a wank that works for wanking!

OK, your turn to explain: what do you mean by "Spike is incapable of having metaphorical sex with humans"?
