Subject: I think your analogy is too favorable to Riley
In reply to: Finn Mac Cool 's message, "Re: very funny" on 17:04:51 11/01/05 Tue

Specifically, this part:

woman finds herself with little life beyond caring for the house, her children, and her husband

Riley wasn't doing any of those things. It's true he was taking care of Dawn, but that was actually part of the overall mission (a critical part, in fact).

In order to make your analogy more on all fours, you'd have to posit that rather than find her own niche, this woman insisted on assisting the husband do his job. Worse yet, she wouldn't accept just any form of assistance, but demanded that she accompany the husband whenever she chose, regardless of any danger to her or her lack of competence to perform his job.

I wouldn't have much sympathy for such a woman in these circumstances.

Moreover, your analogy still begs the question: why was it up to Buffy to change? Everything you've said could have been fixed if Riley had changed. There's no escaping the fact that it, like any relationship, is a two way street. The onus can't be on Buffy alone.
