I think the appraisal system as it is now, with boerboels in their present state of development (or lack thereof) is putting the cart before the horse. The South Africans have been using the appraisal system as THE method for determining the quality and breeding worthiness of a boerboel for 20 years. What this has produced is a breed where over 50% of the puppies they send to the USA are not fit to breed.
(In over 40 years of breeding-at the time-I had never seen a case of prolapse until I discovered boerboels).
I will continue to breed my dogs according to my standards. I will continue to cull before I place any boerboel in the catagory of "breeding stock".
Once I have a kennel-full of sound, healthy dogs that produce sound, healthy puppies.....then I will worry about their conformation according to an appraisal system.
