Subject: Great post, Strawberry! I agree with you on the idea of actual "greatness" versus personal taste. As breathing, feeling human beings, it's impossible for us to ever achieve true objectivity. I also agree with you in applauding the band's commitment to evolving and growing. I agree that the lyrical content has improved in recent years, but the thing that impresses me the most is AK's (relatively) newfound gift for MELODY. This guy just knocks off melody after amazing melody like it's the easiest thing in the world to do - and as a person who has tried to write songs in his life, I can tell you it's not easy at all. It's amazing to me that over 28 tracks on 'Stadium' - more than 2 hours of music, AK never seems hung up for a melodic idea. They seem to come as naturally as breathing.
In reply to: strawb. 's message, "i agree with you about 'SA' but i also think in terms of 'greatness' it's all relative b/c 9 times out of 10 when anyone is talking about naming a 'greatest' work it really comes down to 'personal favorite.' alot of folks would name bssm as the 'greatest' peppers album but why? was it the lyrical content or just the kick ass sexy grooves of most of the songs? what makes 'bssm superior to 'cali' or 'btw' or 'sa?' personally, the thing that grabs me most is lyrical content and ant. has grown SO MUCH over the years and for this reason, 'cali' is my fave album (i'm not saying 'greatest' as again, that's relative), followed by bssm and then SA. to me, it's all about growth and the fact that they continue to push themselves even at this stage in the game makes me proud to be a fan. i'm proud that they know 'bssm' is their most popular album but they flat out refuse to make 'bssm part 2.' moving forward. growth. God, i love those 4 men!" on 12:26:27 11/09/06 Thu
