In reply to: Dissappointed Resident 's message, "Re: Halstead Road houses" on 10/07/13 21:21:23

I am on the Parish Council, but not the Planning & Highways committee. If I had been on that committee then I would have opposed this, mainly for the reason that "Disappointed Resident" mentioned.

My following comments are my own, personal, opinions & NOT the official line of the Parish Council......

I must admit your opinion is pretty close to my own.

There is a proposal to give some of the section 106 money to provide a bus service (not sure where either terminus will be) past the site. As I understand it, the PC oppose this as it will be a "waste of money" (that could go to the Memorial Hall). I also understand that the PC would support fewer "social" / "affordable" houses as they will also take some of the section 106 payment. Also that the village already has "a fair share" of "affordable" housing.

Lafarge, obviously, have to look after their customer base - and Jelson are a customer - so they would never have opposed this "forever". I just wonder how many new residents will be aware of the ground shaking boom at lunchtime everyday? I am sure it won't feature prominently in the marketing blurb!

Charnwood Borough Council are not particularly helpful in this, either. They are just formulating their housing policy (from 2006!). As such they have opened the way to developers to develop where they like as there isn't a plan in place to direct housing to more suitable areas. There is also a lack of available housing identified by Charnwood. This means that they are losing most applications which get taken to the Govt planning inspectorate. In this respect then the PC decision DOES hold water as it is better to have houses with a section 106 payment than have them without it!

Personally I wonder if we also need to invest in employment opportunities in the village, to stop us becoming even more of a commuter belt for either Leicester or Loughborough. No one ever seems to mention offices in planning applications, just more & more houses.
