Subject: Distributor Problem

Hey Doc, I was wondering if I could pick your brain? I have a 1970 chevy truck with an HEI upgrade and sometimes the distributor will fire and sometimes it won't.I can change the distributor with a new one and the same thing happens. What would be your suggestion on how to fix this problem?Thanks for your time DOC!

I check all the connections and all seems well.I rewired the truck with a painless kit and this problem is pre-existing.Do you think I have a grounding issue? Thanks for your help BAD CHAD!

[> [> [> Sorry for the delay but here goes...Put a jumper wire on the battery (+) and hook it to the distributor, If it starts, then the problem is somewhere between the switch and the distributor. Something that you may want to check is whether it is giving power to the dist. as you turn it over. Some solenoids have 2 small wire hookups (R and S). If the (R) is not wired, most likely you are not giving 12 V to the distributor when turning it over. The (S) wire has to be hooked up to engage the starter soleniod.
