Subject: Need consumer information -

I am looking at buying an iPod/MP3 player. Any one out there with advise? I want to be able to download my CDs and than use the MP3 player at work instead of the 5 disc CD changer. I would also like to be able to download videos. Any pitfalls I need to know about?

[> DH has an iPod and prefers that over other brands. Apple has probably the best setup out there (software, service, etc). It is easy to rip CDs, easy to use, easy to sync with your computer. He did a lot of research before buying one and decided on iPod. Because that brand is so popular, it's easy to get all sorts of accessories that are quite handy. -- JAG Junkie (Ronda), 19:36:10 05/11/07 Fri [1]

[> "rip CD's" and "sync with your computer" looks like I'll be learning another language with an iPod also. I'm just now getting "computerese" mastered. -- usmgrad, thanks for the help, 06:17:49 05/12/07 Sat [1]

[> I just have to say the iPod is one of the greatest inventions around. Not only do I have almost all my CD's loaded, I have JAG videos loaded and photos of kids and grandkids. Work will never be the same again. -- usmgrad, I am having way too much fun!, 13:17:37 05/15/07 Tue [1]

[> Along this line - anyone know of a good place to get an iPod fixed? I have a nano that will play for a few seconds and then quit. It was just over a year old when it died so I hear Apple won't fit it. -- Carrotts, 10:44:01 05/16/07 Wed [1]

I purchased a book called the "iPod Missing Manual", in the section Finding an iPod repair shop it lists these 3 sites (I checked to make sure they are still active sites)

Apple has an iPod service request at http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod
This site gives several suggestion on solving iPOD problems before you send it in for repair.

iPodResQ Service (www.iresq.com/ipod)

TechRestore computer repair site has a Pod hospital http://ipod.techrestore.com

As with any web service, don't know how reliable any of them are.

Also two web sites for latest iPod news, they might have repair info or links.

iLounge (www.iLounge.com)
iPodNN( www.ipodnn.com)

Good Luck

[> If you want videos, you'll need a player with a screen, BUT, if you want to try the iPod line for just music, you can get a Shuffle for $80. They're amazingly tiny and can clip to your pocket, but they hold 240 songs. You can play "in order" or "shuffle" the songs, and you can skip forward and back, but that's about it. There's no screen. My son got one for Christmas and loves it. The only thing we learned is that in order to plug it into one of the portable speaker systems (like a clock radio for iPods), the unit must have a USB port. The Shuffle doesn't have the same kind of connector that the larger Nano (is that an oxymoron? "larger Nano"?) or regular iPod. -- The Chief - it's a cool little gadget and a great "starter", 07:43:26 05/31/07 Thu [1]
