Subject: Driver Cleaner

I've been having this irritating problem on both my new vista laptop and my computer at work with windows 2000.

This stupid pop up keeps 'popping up' and annoying me. I can't get rid of it by hitting, escape, the x on the top of the box, or cancel - even closing the window doesn't stop it from trying to download the damn program. Once it starts downloading I can close the window again and get rid of it but it does it to me at least once a day -

HOW DO I GET RID OF THIS DAMN THING!!!!

[> Means you have spyware. If you don’t have a spyware program already installed I would go to Microsoft’s site and look for Windows Defender since you have Vista or can see about Ad-Ware they have a free version for personal use but not sure if Vista compatible. -- Hope, 10:11:58 08/31/07 Fri [1]

[> [> [> actually - I should explain - I ran a check for spyware with adaware on my laptop hoping it would get rid of the nuisance - I deleted 256 problems -but apparently none of them were the one I was worried about - LOL -- chris k, 12:02:20 08/31/07 Fri [1]

[> Actually one of the best things to protect your PC is AVAST - it's available for free home use. Just google it. -- JAGNikJen ~ whose hubby owns an IT firm and this is what we put on every client's machine who doesn't already have a preferred program., 11:40:42 08/31/07 Fri [1]

[> Someone recommended Spy Doctor to me when DH got hit by a keylogger in the World of Warcraft game. Unfortunately, SD costs money. Inside. -- JAG Junkie (Ronda), 20:46:18 08/31/07 Fri [1]

We had all kinds of protection and firewalls etc, but the keylogger still got through by piggybacking on a download for an update to the game. Fortunately the keylogger was only interested in stealing "assets" accumulated in the game, and not our real assets (i.e. bank account or credit card info). We haven't had problems since. That could be because of the Spy Doctor software, or it could be because Microsoft tightened its security after this incident. (It was so bad that the Customer Service phone lines for the game had to be shut down!)

[> Chris: I just had the same pop-up on my pc. It is a trojan virus, and even took over my Windows (couldn't access my control panel) I tried several spyware removers, and the darned thing kept coming back! I had to spend some $, but I finally found a spyware remover that distroyed it. If you have the spyware on yours that I had, you will need a STRONG anit-spyware remover. -- Greta, 09:20:42 09/01/07 Sat [1]

[> I have Avast!, and last night i was doing some research and clicked on a link,, and one of those popups came up(i forget what it said), so i clicked on the x, and then my Avast anti virus software lit up like a xmas tree.. it came across the screen, it sets off a siren , saying it has caught a trojan horse,, etc,, and then it tells you that it has blocked it... then you need to run a thourough scan, and it will catch it again, and then move it to the virus chest. So far it is the best that has worked for me. -- jagfanincalif, 20:19:39 09/06/07 Thu [1]
