Subject: This isn't really a problem, unless you have a Mac.

I have two PCs but my laptop is a Mac. Last week, I did a birthday post for Corinne (now at the bottom of the main page.) I forgot to close of the font tags for the large print in the greeting. However, I corrected it right away and all was well.

Later, doc (who has a Mac), did a post and commented that all the big print below gave her a headache. I looked, but it all seemed ok to me.

Some days later, I was scrolling down the board on my Mac, and found that the print below Corinne's post was huge. I tried correcting it, but to no avail. It's still big print on my Mac.

Judi explained that not all browsers are the same, and that maybe PCs are more forgiving of html errors. She also told me that when I do html on the fanfic archive website, I have to make sure I close off all the tags, for the same reason. It may look ok to me, but it might not look ok on other computers.

Have any Mac users noticed any of this or any other problems that appear that we might not see on our computers?

[> Cece, I notice this all the time. The one occasion I bolded the board, I tried to fix it as well, hence the LONG thread from Maddie...each new post was an attempted ‘fix’. I e-mailed you & asked for help. You e-mailed back that the board looked fine to you & obviously I'd already solved the problem. Yet on my computers (all Macs), the board was still bolded! -- doc, 12:30:49 10/01/07 Mon [1]

I've noticed a few other things that pop up that others say look fine to them, but they’re definitely not ‘fine’ on my computer. The list includes: bolding, italics, size, colors, etc. Guess it must be the browser like judi said?

[> [> LOL. I've often wondered why you have problems that weren't apparent to me, doc. However, now I have a Mac as well, things are becoming clearer. I remember having some real laughs at your frustration with posting tags after your name. I did that too, until judi told me to just hit the space bar, and the name posts alone. I like my Mac and I'm still getting used to it. But I still feel more comfortable on my PC. It's what you get used to. -- Cece, 14:34:38 10/01/07 Mon [1]

[> Cece, I have a Mac. I usually use Firefox and didn't notice the problem, but just now I checked out the board using Safari and did see the problem you were talking about. So my suggestion -- use Firefox! ;) -- lska, 15:12:40 10/01/07 Mon [1]

[> [> I had the same thing on Safari. Browsers do render HTML differently and IE seems to be the most forgiving. When you write any kind of HTML, JavaScript, etc, make sure you test it on other browsers and OSs -- judi, 15:33:42 10/01/07 Mon [1]

[> [> [> I have only ever used Macs (they're kind of the standard in the ad biz), have both Safari and Firefox but almost exclusively use Safari 'cause I'm more familiar with it. But yes, I have noticed that I see things differently using different browsers (and here I just thought it was me going a little crazy). -- clr, 20:42:50 10/01/07 Mon [1]

[> [> [> Actually, Internet Explorer is the worst browser out there. Unfortunatley it't the most popular so Microsoft doesn't think it needs to bring its browser up to speed in terms of standards and compliance with W3C standards. (Anyone who does web development will have definite opinions on IE!) -- JAGNikJen, 09:45:43 10/11/07 Thu [1]

[> Same here - am currently using a MacBook and was wondering why the print on the board was so big, even though you had said you fixed it, Cece. I never would have thought of it being a browser problem. So I better tag on a question here: Since I will post a few pics of the Midwest meeting, what do I have be careful of when posting the pics with the Safari? I live in fear of bolding the board, LOL! -- Colie, 21:54:51 10/01/07 Mon [1]

[> [> Colie, when I bolded the board, I used < b > but didn't end with < /b >. Without the end tag, everything underneath the < b > bolded. I posted < /b > immediately (it shows up as NT btw), and it worked on the PCs but not on the Macs. Thanks for the tip with Firefox, Iska. I'll try that as I was using Safari. -- Cece....Btw, the < b > etc. can't have spaces. I had to use spaces here so that it would show up., 00:08:19 10/02/07 Tue [1]

[> [> [> WAIT A MINUTE! My error. I don't want to confuse anyone. I didn't BOLD the board, I made the font BIG. Different html. Sorry Colie. Check your email for clarification. -- Cece, 09:08:51 10/02/07 Tue [1]

[> I took Iska's advice and downloaded Firefox for use as an alternative browser. And it worked! When I checked out Corinne's bd post, the font looked normal. Hey, go figure! -- Cece, 09:11:38 10/02/07 Tue [1]
