I can use the pad, but I would happily go up against anyone testing for speed and agility, mouse v pad. I've been able to use my laptop easily without a mouse, when I've been a passenger in the car on a long trip. My husband dictated a bunch of letters, and I typed. However, if I'd had a wireless mouse at the time, I could have used it as it works on any surface, wobbly or smooth. The way mine is laid out, there is all sorts of space to the right and the left of the touchpad, so I use that blank, flat surface as my "mousepad".
