I guess many parents feel that their child is mature and responsible, so they let the kid have a computer, with full, high speed internet, in their bedroom.

My former next door neighbours had three children, now all teens. The eldest is 18 now. The ONE computer they had in the house was in the family room, in full view of everyone. They had an open stairway, so as soon as anyone came down the stairs, they could see the computer screen immediately. There is no way any of the kids could close a screen in time.

These same parents also had blocks on the tv. They were fun parents who were involved in their kids' lives without trying to be their buddies. Frankly, I think in this case, the parents should be charged for endangering their child. But that would put me in a fantasy world.
