Although some of the harassed in this article are Christians, I do not think that this phenomomenon is directed soley toward Christians, nor do I think that their being Christians justifies their unjust and reprehensible treatment.

Pastor and Christian Camp Face Human Rights Charges over Moral Principles

Harassment by Canadian Human Rights Tribunals Increasing Over Homosexual Issue

RED DEER, AB, November 22, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Cases of harassment and economic penalties imposed upon Canadian Christians who speak out against the social, medical and spiritual dangers of homosexuality are on the rise. LifeSite has learned of two more cases of such harassment by human rights tribunals.

MP Vic Toews, the Justice critic for the Canadian Alliance has called on the Manitoba Government to "immediately move to clarify the law to ensure that religious organizations are not singled out because of their moral position on homosexuality." The Provencher MP points out that Camp Arnes, a camp on Lake Winnipeg run by the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba, is facing a challenge under the Manitoba Human Rights Act for denying access to the camp to the Winnipeg Gay and Lesbian Choir. The Act says that groups or individuals cannot be discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation.

In a related case in Alberta, Rev. Stephen Boissoin is facing a human rights complaint brought by homosexual activist and University of Calgary professor Dr. Darren Lund. Rev. Boissoin, an outstanding citizen who for nine years ran an outreach to troubled youth that had 100-150 teens who would frequent it weekly, raised the ire of homosexual activists with a letter to the editor of a local paper which served as a wakeup call to parents regarding homosexual activism in schools. Lund accused Rev. Boissoin of hatemongering in comments to the press and when a local teen was beaten by hooligans supposedly because of his homosexual inclinations, Rev. Boissoin's letter was blamed.

Boissoin's damaged reputation caused the loss of funding to his youth outreach which was forced to close due to lack of funds. Now Boissoin is faced with retaining a lawyer to defend himself against the human rights complaint.

At least 6 mayors across the country have been reprimanded and some fined - one as much as $10,000 - for refusing to proclaim 'gay pride day'. Ontario printer Scott Brockie was fined for refusing to print homosexual activist material, and a man (Hugh Owens) has been fined for a newspaper ad quoting the Bible on homosexuality. These and many other incidents have become part of a growing harassment of Christians in Canada over this issue. A dangerous denial of traditional democratic rights of religious belief and free speech has become pervasive.

[> Homophobic Reverend -- Does it really matter, 17:22:04 11/28/02 Thu (px1ar.ed.shawcable.net/24.70.95.203)

The Homophobic Reverend

There is a very dangerous man living among the citizens of Red Deer. This man is dangerous to everyone, but poses a bigger threat to young people than he does to adults. This man is not a scam artist, nor is he a sexual offender. This man calls himself a reverend, but is really no better than the elitist fascists of years past.

Among other things, Reverend Stephen Boissoin preaches to youth who attend concerts at the Upper Level Youth Centre in Red Deer. The tactics he uses to brainwash people and indoctrinate his ideas into their minds are chillingly similar to those used by history's dictators, such as Mao, Stalin and Hitler.

Reverend Boissoin's charismatic speeches quicly capture the attention of youth, many of which ar6e still too young to think for themselves. Stephen Boissoin knows that these youth will agree with anything he says. In July of 2002, at a concert held at the Upper Level Youth Centre, Reverend Boissoin gave a speech during the time between two bands. He would not allow the show to go on until he was done speaking, but would not begin his speech until everyone was listening. Those who did not wish to hear his homophobic message were not allowed to step outside, but rather forced to sit on the floor while he preached from his elevated position on the stage.

After Mr. Boissoin had captured his audiences attention and realized they were under his control, he began spewing Bible quotes and facts from history. When Reverend Boissoin stated that in 1967, Pierre Trudeau changed the Criminal Code of Canada to relax laws against homosexuality, a young man near the back of the room began to clap. The other youth in the room applauded briefly, until they realized that Stephen Boissoin did not want them to clap. Upon this realization, they abruptly stopped clapping. This is proof that these poor, brainwashed youth really were not thinking for themselves that night, but rather just trying to fit in by pretending to believe the same thing they thought everyone else believed. They felt good about themselves because they were part of his lie.

Reverend Boissoin must be stopped before he does what Mao, Stalin and Hitler all did before him, create an army of youth who will obey every command he gives and believe every lie he tells.

[> [> couple of mysteries solved:
1) the poster is most likely Tanner Waldo link
this post is a verbatim quote from his weblog...
2) Rev. Boissoin runs the center, which is also a church supported by other churches
so I would say "get your own venue if you don't like him"
3) from Google I can conclude this guy isn't even Fred "godhatesfags.com" Phelps, let alone Hitler..
4) his website (thesermonator.com) is down, he's resigned from the local Christian Coalition
and he's defending himself against 2 lawsuits...

[> camp arnes debate -- Tony, 09:12:55 12/07/02 Sat (px3nr.wp.shawcable.net/24.66.94.142)

You would not believe the situation here in Manitoba.
Several years ago a Winnipeg School Divison trustee (Ms. Barr) took it upon herself as a personal crusade to get
gay lifestyle into the then Winnipeg School Divison # 1's
libraries. As well she wanted "sensitivity training" for
the divison's teachers.
A talk show host in discussing this topic identified Ms. Barr as "having a homosexual agenda".
Ms. Barr sued the radio station. She won the two radio men lost their jobs. The format of the station was changed.
Ms. Barr insisted as part of the judgement that the radio
station publicly apologize TWICE. She was also given an
undisclosed amount of money as a settlement.
|Guess what Ms. Barr did with the money. She proudly donated the money to homosexual charities.
Did she not have a "homosexual agenda". What is wrong with identifying it as such ??
This latest chain of events deals with a residential summer camp on Lake Winnipeg. The camp is called "Camp Arnes"
The summary is that the same school division (Winnipeg
School Division 1) has passed a ruling that no school in the divison can use the camp's facilities. Apparently the reason is that Camp Arnes denied the use of the camp to
a homosexual group.
Stay tuned !!!
Gue

[> further info regarding "Camp Arnes" -- Tony, 09:18:23 12/07/02 Sat (px3nr.wp.shawcable.net/24.66.94.142)

CHRISTIAN CAMP FACES HUMAN RIGHTS COMPLAINT

A Mennonite Brethren camp in Manitoba will soon be the target of a human rights complaint because it refuses to rent its facilities to groups that promote homosexuality, the Winnipeg Free Press reported Thursday.

A Winnipeg-based homosexual choir, the Rainbow Harmony Project, says it will file its complaint against Camp Arnes, located north of Gimli on Lake Winnipeg, with the Manitoba Human Rights Commission in a few days. Choir spokeswoman Brenda Froese alleges that when they tried to rent the facility for a winter weekend retreat, they were turned down because the choir does not fit the camp's criteria for prospective guests. According to the Free Press, a camp policy states: "While on the Camp Arnes site, campers, guests and visitors shall refrain from . . . engaging in or promoting/supporting homosexual activity or organizations." The Rainbow Harmony Project - which reportedly "sings songs celebrating gay relationships and struggles for equality" - will argue they were discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation.

In a news release, Manitoba Canadian Alliance MP Vic Toews called on the provincial government to immediately clarify the Manitoba Human Rights Act "to ensure that Canadians' rights to freedom of religion and expression are protected." Toews added that this case underscores the danger religious organizations face from New Democrat MP Svend Robinson's "hate-crimes" legislation, Bill C-250[*5] (formerly Bill C-415). If passed into law, Toews warned, it "will interfere with the right of religious leaders and institutions to communicate and adhere to essential matters of faith." That bill is now before the Commons Justice Committee.
