Subject: Chris, I would believe the US before I would believe Saddam Hussein and his thugs. It is obvious already that the US has been treating Iraqi prisoners humanely and even let many Iraqis go on their way back home, etc., rather than imprison them.
In reply to: Chris Henry 's message, ""They could have been kept in sanitised barracks and never shown the US leaflets, he said." With full air-conditioning and ensuite bathrooms, no doubt. Another case of believing our own propaganda, assuming that Iraqi soldiers will believe what we tell them in a leaflet. Why should they? They see us as the enemy, a view reinforced by the fact that we shoot at them. Would we expect our soldiers to believe an Iraqi leaflet? Some of our propagandists and media people need to get back on to Planet Earth." on 00:40:11 03/25/03 Tue

[> [> [> Of course you would, so would I. Soldiers will always believe their own side rather than the enemy leaflets. But it obviously applies to the Iraqis as much as to us, we shouldn't fool ourselves otherwise. -- Chris Henry, 23:51:58 03/25/03 Tue (cache2-2.ruh.isu.net.sa/212.138.47.12)

[> [> [> [> Sorry, Chris, but it does not apply to the Iraqis the same way it applies to us. Many of the Iraqi military do not wish to fight and do not trust Saddam. They do know what he is. The US is more honorable and can be trusted a lot father than Saddam can. -- William, 06:11:08 03/26/03 Wed (cache-mtc-ah04.proxy.aol.com/64.12.96.169)

[> [> [> [> [> Absolute truths are irrelevant here. What is important is what the Iraqi troops themselves think, and what they think is that the US military is their enemy and will always lie to them. As any intelligence officer will tell you, you need to get into the mind of the enemy; thay don't think like us, and certainly not the way we would like them to think. -- Chris Henry, 05:53:52 03/27/03 Thu (cache2-2.ruh.isu.net.sa/212.138.47.12)
