Subject: There is not one single Middle East country surrounding Iraq where the population (and in many cases the government) does not regard the US as invaders and userpers. Why, then, would we expect the Iraqi people to welcome us with open arms? Yes, they are ruled by a despot, but he's their despot and the alternative of Gen Tommy Franks in an Arab, Islamic, country is about as welcome as the proverbial "Hooker at a wedding". That's where the denial comes in. And I'll be ashamed when I'm so naive as to think otherwise.
In reply to: William 's message, "Nevertheless you seem to be in deep denial as if you don't want this to work and as if you want Saddam to win. To paraphrase Michael "Mr. Fiction" Moore, Shame on you, Chris! Shame on you!" on 17:27:27 03/25/03 Tue

[> [> [> [> [> Chris, there is not one single Middle East country in which the citizens and the leaders don't support and like and appreciate the US. Sure they have their radical, hate America crowds but they also have those who don't hate America but who love it. Iran is one wherein millions of Iranians have been demonstrating against the rulers, the Ayatollahs, for some time now. -- William, 06:19:32 03/26/03 Wed (cache-mtc-ah04.proxy.aol.com/64.12.96.169)

[> [> [> [> [> [> They often demonstrate against their rulers, but that doesn't mean they like the US. What opinion polls there are show support for the US at less than 10%. The reason is, of course, their perception that the US aids and abets a country that they detest and would wipe out if they ever got the chance - Israel. -- Chris Henry, 05:39:15 03/27/03 Thu (cache1-2.ruh.isu.net.sa/212.138.47.11)

[> [> [> [> [> Middle Eastern citizens come here and to other western countries in droves to get an education, live, work, and find it wonderful and their families and friends come as well. Sure there is resentment but it is not all the US fault. I have read the "Friday Sermons" from the Palestinian Areas, Saudi Arabia, etc., calling for the murder of Westerners, Americans, Israelis, Jews, etc. This stuff is broadcast via Radio, television, print media, and in the mosques, etc. It is pure, unadulterated brainwashing and hate speech. By the way, how did you join this forum posting through Saudi Arabia? -- William, 06:23:18 03/26/03 Wed (cache-mtc-ah04.proxy.aol.com/64.12.96.169)

[> [> [> [> [> [> Whether it is the US's fault or not is irrelevant. The fact is that there is extremely strong anti-US feeling. You've just quoted above some examples of that. The fact exists, whether it's justified or not, whether we like it or not. -- Chris Henry, 05:43:12 03/27/03 Thu (cache10-2.ruh.isu.net.sa/212.138.47.29)
