Subject: Nope -- no terror connection in Iraq -- yeah sure . . . just a start . . . much more to come

. . . he said an Iraqi woman who waved a white flag of surrender was later found hanging from a street lampost.

"Iraqi terror organizations continue to force young men to come out of the towns and fight," Renuart told a briefing at Central Command's forward headquarters in Qatar.

"They're probably being forced to fight because they fear for their families as opposed to being loyal to the regime."

[> No one doubts that this is a vicious regime. However to equate these "terror organisations" with the likes of Al Qaeda is misleading and dangerous. They pose a threat to their own population, but not the world at large. Meanwhile trouble is brewing in the home of the real terrorists - see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/2897137.stm - and the danger is that we've taken our eye off that ball. And then of course there's North Korea, stirring up their own form of trouble. -- Chris Henry, 01:19:37 03/31/03 Mon (cache9-2.ruh.isu.net.sa/212.138.47.20)

[> [> I didn't mention Al Qaeda -- you did. I don't care what group a terrorist belongs to --- I just by their behavior. In this case if i were to conjecture a group relation, it would likely be Hamas. Seems that they were recommending certain behaviors of Iraqis a few weeks back and then such actions did occur. Would you have left that poor woman's corpse hanging from that tree? This is not premptive ... did you not see the death in New York and Washington D.C. That "pre-emptive" crap is just propaganda and you know it. -- SG, 09:54:39 03/31/03 Mon (pcp01422563pcs.lndsd201.pa.comcast.net/68.81.153.209)

[> [> [> Yes, the "pre-emptive" argument is propaganda. It was specifically advocated by Bush and Wolfowitz, among others, in the run-up to this war. See "Bush aides press case for pre-emptive strikes" in http://www.washtimes.com/national/default-200291112438.htm. Their words, not mine. And they are, as you say, faeces. -- Chris Henry, 02:05:16 04/01/03 Tue (cache10-2.ruh.isu.net.sa/212.138.47.29)

Bin Laden was watching, on satellite TV, in his cave, from Afghanistan (not Iraq, as many seem to think). -- Chris Henry, 03:51:35 04/01/03 Tue (cache2-2.ruh.isu.net.sa/212.138.47.12)

[> It would be nice and neat if we could deal with each of these in turn, however the enemy tends not to fit in with our plans. I dread to imagine a summer where are own forces are still sweating it out in Iraq, while a new Taliban Republic is declared in S.E. Afghanistan and North Korea takes a "pre-emptive, just to defend ourselves" walk across the DMZ. -- Chris Henry, 01:22:37 03/31/03 Mon (cache10-2.ruh.isu.net.sa/212.138.47.29)
