Saw the auditions for Dance of Desire posted on the TIDA site. Did anyone have any luck???
It would be great for Irish Dancing in NZ if some of our superb young people were involved in some way in this spectacular.
Hopefully we get some kiwi's onboard and celebrate their success, like the fantastic rolemodel and success Aslinn (now TCRG) is performing internationally and demonstrating what talent NZ has to offer.
Go kiwi dancers!!!!! :)

- Yes nz dancers did do different dances than overseas but we have been changed to match overseas ie worlds etc now. (NT) -- mum, 01:39:30 12/05/09 Sat
- so does that mean that if I am dancing in under 19 this year I am now doing jig instead of hornpipe? cos my teacher hasn't said anything about that (NT) -- dancer, 16:17:53 12/05/09 Sat
- 2010 dances for under 19. Jig, slip jig and hornpipe set. The same as 2009. Basically whatever dances you did this year you are doing again next year. I am a dancer in this age group and am 100% sure of this. (NT) -- U 19 (2010) dancer, 20:15:07 12/06/09 Sun
- thanks, actually talked to teacher yesterday and she has given me all the correct details, and she said she double checked with another teacher and it's definately correct. (NT) -- Not confused anymore, 12:54:18 12/07/09 Mon
- I prefer it the old way - now we have to change dances after worlds, when we're straight into competitions, rather than over summer when we have heaps of time to perfect everything.. does anyone know what 19-21 and O21 are doing? (NT) -- but hey., 22:00:45 12/07/09 Mon
- Also, "wrong dances" depends on whether you're looking at the primary or secondary qualifiers for a region. Its my understanding that at the NANs you'll do say reel hpipe, then at the regionals/O you'd do slipjig jig. Or at least, that's my understanding of it. NZ nationals is probably equivalent to a regional, since its closed to other regions and has fairly low numbers. (NT) -- rather than NANs and AI/GBs, 01:58:23 12/08/09 Tue
- I understood it that back in 2002 when we had out first "Nationals" separate from the fies, it was decided that we were going to do the "wrong dances" because our nationals are so late in the year, and it meant we could use the same dances at nationals and worlds. That seemed sensible to me. Does anyone know why we decided to change? (NT) -- O19 Dancer, 13:09:53 12/08/09 Tue
- This is changing it to same dance at Nationals and the following Worlds. (NT) -- dancers mum, 15:41:28 12/08/09 Tue
- The change works this way. Whatever dance you do at Nationals 2010 this is what you will dance at Worlds in Dublin 2011. This is what Tc told us (NT) -- JudithA, 20:50:28 12/11/09 Fri
- I was just thinking, wouldn't it be cool if we had a Parade of Champs at the Aucklands next year. Does anyone else think it'd be cool? -- dancer, 15:59:10 12/08/09 Tue [2]

schools in Christchurch -- LauraB3, 11:40:07 11/13/09 Fri [4]
Hi there all, i've been directed here from DDN and i'm hoping someone can help me out.
I'm looking for a good ID school in Christchurch that takes adult dancers? I currently live and dance in Switzerland, i've just come back to dancing after a 3 year 'baby break' but i used to compete in Primary/Intermediate (not sure of the equivalent in NZ??) Anyway next summer (August-and i know it's a long way off ;-) me and my husband/daughter will be moving to Christchurch and i really want to carry on dancing. I've been told that there are not so many adults dancing/competing in NZ but i'd still like to keep up the lessons, just wondered if anyone could recommend a good school?
Cheers guys :-)

Just want to let you all know, I have become invovled with the Christchurch Competitions Society as co-convenor of the Irish section, with Kerrin Dawe. This competition has historically only involved dancers from down south, but from next year will be open to everyone. We have set the date for July 10th and depending on entries, July 11th.
This is the middle weekend of the school holidays.
Hope this helps with the planning of your dancing calendar for 2010. I'll post more details when I have them.

- The Feis -- Shannon D, 21:12:00 10/25/09 Sun [11]
Firstly I'd just like to say OMG THE FEIS WAS SO FUN!!! Thank you so much to the Wellington Irish Society and everyone else who helped organise the feis - it was so well done!!! Also thanks to Dean, you did an amazing job keeping things running smoothly :) (although I still stand by my U2 vs Westlife argument lol)
The Ulster Cup night was awesome with all the winners from the speech and singing performing and the night at the Irish Society last night was so much fun!!! I so hope next year's feis is as cool! (come on Christchurch, we can do this!!!) But I reckon more people should come! It's such a great competition and it has so much history!
Anyway I just wanted to say thanks for such a fun weekend and also.. a question for the Kerry and Kildunne parents.. is it ok if I put the adult ceili comp on youtube? They were so good!!!

Just a comment re dates of competitions. I realise there are lots of variables to work around and a lot of effort if put into organising the competitions, but can I suggest that dates like Mothers and Fathers day possibly be left free of competitions next year. These dates can be very special to a lot of people and can clash with other events. Thanks.
