[> killer transmission -- John Barnes @ BTP Racing, 22:00:17 12/02/01 Sun

My company builds powerglides & th-400 based three speeds for extreme power levels. I have transmissions in top sportsman/top dragster and many blown alky & n2o quick 8 type cars (and a couple of monster trucks in the midwest)
Our top of the line glide is in the "ol' rattler" federal-mogul dragster. This car was retired from A-fuel use a couple of years ago. We changed the BAE "fathead" into a 14-71 blown alky motor & took out the clutch and reverser, replacing them with one of our 'glides. Three seasons of racing (about 75 runs per) later we have broken one input shaft. We freshen the trans each season with soft-parts and clutches/band. Our 1.66 gear set has not been touched. It is hooked to one of our 10.5 spragless converters. incrementel times average .92 (best) to .98 sixty-footers; 4.12@171mph eigths & 6.67@196 quarter mile times. We fatten the high speed so that the motor goes rich to kill off mile an hour, some of the tracks we race at will not tolerate 205+mph trap-speeds. We use our three-speeds in heavy seven second door cars. 7.79@179.4 and 1.18 sixty foot in a 3130lb '75 nova hooked to a 523ci Arias blown alky motor. Do the math, at 180mph with the nova's frontal area we are channeling 1625 crankshaft horsepower through this trans. We have eliminated the breakage prone intermediate sprag totally and use a total of 22 clutches for superior surface area. This trans must be used with one of our torque-converters because of the fluid flow dynamics and torque-multiplication this unit was designed for. Every transmission is dyno-tested and you get a one-year warranty against breakage along with a restall on the converter to exactly match your motor. Each unit is custom built when ordered. We are a relatively small company that does not advertise because the niche we fill is very specialized (blown alcohol BBC & Hemi/ big inch N20). If you are interested, by all means contact me at: Bell Transmission Products, Inc.-BTP Racing 1-701-255-6887 or 1-800-448-7649 P.S.> I do have a fresh Quickor drive unit (Lenco-drive now) and a B&J three speed that is for sale. call me with any questions, I would be glad to help out with info or whatever JJ
