Yes frames!! I remember them. My Mom's are in storage now. Sadly she rarely quilts.

When I made mine, my mil owned a decorator business and owned huge tables that had measurements built in to them. I spread my quilt onto that table and put my pieces down in pattern form, pinned them and added the quilting backing. Like a nit-wit I didn't make my first (and only) quilt a full size. Oh no. I had to make it a king size. It was not fun toward the end and I got so frustrated by the time the actual quilting began, my blessed grandmother did most of the actual "quilting", sewing. That thing felt like it weighed a ton. of course I loved it when it was completed. I treasure it now because it's something my grandmother and I made together.
