Bonanza began shortly after Eisenhower had been re-elected to a second term. It was cancelled two weeks after Nixon
won his second term--which he was not permitted to complete.
So Bonanza went through the Eisenhower,Kennedy, Johnson,
and Nixon Administrations meaning it lasted 16 years but
the problem with length was that the Waltons started before
Nixon was re-elected to his second term, then Ford completed that term, Carter was elected and only served one
term. Then Ronald Reagan was elected and was only 5 months
into his first term when the Waltons went off. So the
length of time of a series compared to Presidents does not
always fit.
What others overlook is that since Ford had already been
President two years before he even ran for a term on his
own, had he been elected instead of Carter, he could only
have served that one term and would have had to step down
when 1980 came---if you read the Presidential succession
amendment correctly.
