Thanks so much for everybody's interesting comments. And I had not thought about the soaps, as I look at some of the lists of long-running TV shows it is amazing the amount of years some of them have been on. Also, some of the kids shows like Sesame Street and Captain Kangaroo are amazing runs. What is also interesting is to flip the question somewhat and see what long-running shows coincided with surprisingly few presidential administrations. For example, ER has been on for about 14 years but has only lasted during the Clinton and Bush II admins. Just by coincidence, the Waltons lasted six fewer seasons but saw twice as many presidents!
