I've never heard of it anywhere except The Waltons either.

This thread reminds me of a conversation I had with my Daddy just before the birth of my first grandchild. Daddy was a junior and he didn't care for it at all. His name was Jake and he told me that when he was a boy nobody knew what to call him. Some called him Little Jake, Littly Jay, JJ, Jay it just went on and on. He said he never cared for any of the names until a few special people came along and called him 'Daddy' and then even more special people came along and called him 'PawPaw'. He said he really liked both of those names.

I have 5 sons and my third son is a junior. This was not planned. My husband had named the first two using names that he really loved and it just happened that the 3rd one was junior. His name is Michael and he will be 29 next month and we still call him Mikey, even his wife calls him Mikey. The funny thing about this is that my husband is the youngest of 4 sons and the 3rd son is junior. As I mentioned before my Daddy was a junior and also the 3rd son. My sons noticed this pattern when they were teenagers and they all proudly told me that their 3rd sons would be named junior and when I told them that sometimes people have girls too they looked at me like I was loco. So far I have one grandson named junior. Mikey has 2 girls and I believe his first son will be Michael the 3rd, he's decided his Mommy wasn't so crazy after all.
