I've only seen them on TV, but even then they're almost too amazing to comprehend. These people are truly artists. They make dye their own cloth to get exactly the color or effect they want. If I can find a link, I'll post it here. I think they call them art quilts. I'm in awe.

A friend and neighbor is a very good quilter, and she tried to teach me. Am I lacking the skill or the patience? I don't know. But I know that 4 or 5 stiches were plenty for me.

Your grandmother sounds like someone I would love to have known. Maybe she wasn't lazy. Maybe she was just particular about the domestic activities she thought were important. ;)
