i have heard all the above sayings used back when i was a kid but my husband who is the same age as me never did. his family didnt use such expressions as "in a whip stitch" or any others often used.
one i have never heard before is one my mom says to indicate that she means "a far piece" she will say "well it was clear down around robin hoods barn" another old one is to indicate a dumb person is "she was dumber than aunt bessies calf" when i first heard that i said to mom "who the heck is aunt bessie and why was her calf so dumb?" silly me!
anyone ever heard those two? my grandma said the one about not having sense enough to pound sand in a rathole years ago before i was born.
