Nancy, I'm sure that all 9 seasons of The Walton's will be released on regular DVDs. I'm not sure about the different batches of Walton's movies that came out later. No, HD Blu Ray DVDs will not play on a regular DVD player, but all dvds can be played on a Blu-Ray player.

Honestly, I stopped buying DVDs about 4 years ago while I was waiting for this HD decison by the big companies.
The Waltons are the ONLY dvds that I have purchased since then because the show is so close to my heart, even though I knew I would buy them on an HD release in the future.
The reason I stopped buying regular dvds at the time was because I didn't want to buy a dvd then feel compelled to buy it again in HD in the future.

Pdudgeon, I mentioned the PS3 because at the time they came out they were cheaper than a standard Sony Blu-Ray player. That has changed and now Blu Ray players are cheaper than a PS3. That being said, I personally love my PS3, it's a computer as well as a superior game system and Blu-Ray player, you can even connect a keyboard to them. Every one of my friends that had a PS2 that played my PS3 turned around and bought one for themselves within a week.

I know that some people I've talked to about The Walton's dvds want them to be released on a one sided disc instead of the 2 sided dvds that are more difficult to handle. I have perfect vision but even I have to squint when I look at my Walton's dvds to figure out if I'm looking at side A or side B.

Others that I consider experts in the field of digital and media have told me that the Walton's DVDs were not created from the original masters but copied from a "syndicated master tape".

I have the feeling when The Walton's are released on HD Blu-Ray they will be the one sided discs, maybe with some pictures on each disc. Also expect them to be as clear and clean as possible with no visual distortions that have been found on some of the Walton's dvds that have been released.
