Subject: Just some things to think about

The Carifta team did well…I applaud them. There is no way that anyone can be disappointed with the OVERALL performance. However, there were also some disappointing results. They were not disappointing because the swimmers didn’t try their best or place as high as they were expected to, the results were disappointing because the people who were ‘cheated’ out of their spots on the team could have, no, WOULD have placed higher and received more points. We definitely would have had better results in the relays if those people who actually DESERVED to compete in Carifta got a chance to.

As far as the comment about the ‘Golden Girls’, yes the girls swam really well and they deserved their medals. Let us remember though that Carifta is the lowest level of international competition that the Bahamas competes in. I’m not trying to say that what these girls accomplished didn’t mean anything, or that they aren’t headed for great accomplishments in the future, I’m simply saying let’s not get too exited. The Bahamas has seen it’s fair share of Carifta Golden girls, from 11-12 all the way to 15 - 17, but where are they now? Many of them haven’t swam a lap since their last Carifta! I think what Old Timer was trying to say was that there is really no depth in this sport after age group swimming, and that the BSF should try to do something to develop all the talent we have in age group swimming, so that it continues in larger, more competitive meets.

Just some things to think about.
