I love that John can laugh at what he thinks Hal's reaction might possibly have been and still be touched at the obvious affection Hal has for him. I wish all brothers could have a relationship that stands up so well on so many levels, not many men could. Hal is so much more than just an older brother, he is heir to the family fortune and head of the family, John's commanding officer and his friend. If only they could have partnered a little better, shared information and worked more closely on the investigation into their father's death and the rumors surrounding him they might have resolved it much earlier. Their mother wasn't a very good role model for them in this regard, she was just as guilty of withholding information that would have been very helpful..still it wouldn't have been nearly as good a story without them all racing towards the same conclusions practically at the same time. It's interesting that the reason none of them *did* compare notes and work together was that both the Duchess and Hal were so fiercely protecting each other and John. - I think it was scary, the Duchess showing up all alone to confront her husband's killer, with all her "evidence" right there for him to take. It was foolish and reckless. Even with a gun she could have been overpowered and killed if he'd actually shown up. I also think it was terrible of John, not telling Hal all those years that their father had been murdered. Hal had a right to have known that at least. I can't imagine why John wouldn't have. I guess it was important to the plot, I feel it wasn't like him at all. (NT) -- Jane, 06:22:26 11/09/07 Fri
